Survey Reveals Low Awareness of ED Treatment Options Among Men in Japan

Survey on Awareness of ED Treatment Options in Japan

In contemporary society, issues concerning male sexual function have become increasingly common. To understand the perception of treatment options, Fit Clinic, located in Shibuya, Tokyo, conducted a survey involving 200 men aged 20 and above regarding the continuous use of low-dose tadalafil for erectile dysfunction (ED).

This survey aimed specifically to gauge the awareness and attitudes surrounding this treatment method and does not endorse any particular usage style. It includes information pertinent to freely prescribed medical services based on a physician's judgment.

Summary of Survey Results

  • - Approximately 30% are aware of daily tadalafil use.
  • - Awareness is highest among men in their 50s (40%).
  • - Actual experience with daily use is only 5%.
  • - More than half prefer taking medication prior to sexual activity.
  • - A significant number express concerns about discussing these issues openly.

Limited Awareness of Daily Tadalafil Use

The results indicate that only 31% of respondents reported being aware of or having knowledge about daily low-dose tadalafil usage, while a disheartening 69% admitted they were completely unaware. This suggests that knowledge about this medication’s daily usage is currently quite limited among men in Japan.

Age-Based Awareness

Examining the awareness by age group reveals that the highest familiarity occurred in men in their 50s at 40%, followed by 38.5% in their 60s, and 35.3% in their 40s. This implies that men in their 40s and older are more likely to be aware of this therapeutic option compared to younger age groups.

Experience with Daily Use

When asked about their actual experience with tadalafil, only 5% of participants had taken it daily at any point in time. Among these, 3% are current users, while 2% reported past usage. This stark contrast between awareness and actual experience underscores a gap in the transition from knowledge to usage.

Preferred Usage Style

When it comes to preferred intake methods, a clear majority of men (56.5%) indicated that they felt more comfortable taking medication before sexual activity. Only 16.5% supported the idea of daily intake. However, among those who had previously used tadalafil daily, there was a more positive lean towards this style of usage, hinting at differences in perceptions based on knowledge and experience levels.

Insights into Male Concerns

In open-ended responses, participants shared various concerns ranging from intermittent erection issues to anxiety about discussing these topics with healthcare providers. These problems extend beyond clinical symptoms, indicating psychological burdens that may affect personal relationships.

Director's Remarks

Dr. Keita Hattori, the director at Fit Clinic, stated, “This survey highlights the low recognition of daily tadalafil use, while also revealing deeper issues such as concerns about aging, declining vitality, and a sense of insecurity.” He emphasizes the importance of patients discussing these sensitive issues with medical professionals to discover appropriate solutions tailored to their conditions.
