Gamers Unite for Health: Children's Miracle Network Event Raises Over $2.8 Million

Gamers Make a Difference at the Extra Life: Unlocked Event

On November 8, 2025, the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) hosted its first-ever Extra Life: Unlocked event in Salt Lake City. This ambitious initiative transformed the organization's headquarters into a vibrant hub of gaming and community spirit aimed at raising funds for pediatric healthcare. Combining a five-hour live streaming session with rich in-person activities, this event successfully brought together gamers, influencers, hospital personnel, and families to support children's hospitals across the U.S. and Canada.

The Extra Life: Unlocked event marked the beginning of the Extra Life Game Day, which ran from November 8 to 16. Enthusiasts from all walks of life collaborated to raise both awareness and significant funds, totaling over $2.8 million. This contribution was part of a larger yearly total of $10.5 million raised by the Extra Life program, showcasing the remarkable influence of community commitments and love for gaming on children's health initiatives.

Aimee J. Daily, Ph.D., President and CEO of CMN Hospitals, remarked on the event's impact, describing it as a groundbreaking method for connecting gamers with the mission of CMN Hospitals. She expressed how this blend of gaming, storytelling, and social engagement demonstrates that creativity and compassion can yield real changes in the lives of children who require medical assistance.

Throughout the day, attendees participated in several engaging activities, including the Champion Quests led by CMN’s National Champions, and thrilling Game Show Battle Rooms that featured live competitions among fundraising partners. Another highlight was Sharkey's Cuts for Kids' activation, which showcased creative hairstyles and face painting inspired by the gaming world. The event also included a Tattoo Station, allowing participants to celebrate their journey with related tattoos. Adding to the day's excitement, attendees achieved a Guinness World Records title for the Longest Line of Toy Money, with each bill representing the funds raised that day — reaching 1,072 pieces in honor of the 72 kids entering member children's hospitals every minute. The record attempt was officially sanctioned by a Guinness adjudicator and facilitated by Hasbro, who generously provided the toy currency.

One of the poignant moments of the event involved Kendalyn, a local champion from Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital, who shared her inspiring story alongside her service dog, Reggie. Kendalyn spoke candidly about the vital role expressive therapies play in her health, thanks to donations made through CMN Hospitals. Other National Champions from various hospitals also shared their stories, underscoring how gaming therapy had positively influenced their recovery journeys.

The event included appearances from notable gaming personalities, including Jack Pattillo and others, who interacted with attendees, participating in challenges and raising awareness about the cause. Partner organizations were also present, enhancing the event's visibility and outreach.

Jeff Montegut, Director of Extra Life at CMN Hospitals, highlighted the camaraderie and passion that defined Extra Life: Unlocked, expressing how the event celebrated the essence of community spirit. He noted that participants weren't just gaming for enjoyment; they were playing with a purpose to create a lasting impact on children's health.

In addition, attendees were given a sneak peek at the upcoming brand evolution for CMN Hospitals, slated to launch in January 2026, which aims to bring together existing programs like Extra Life under a unified mission. Since its establishment, Extra Life has raised over $132 million for CMN Hospitals, ensuring children receive exceptional medical care regardless of their family's financial situation.

Though Game Day has concluded, the opportunity to support local children's hospitals continues. Gamers, streamers, and advocates still can contribute to their local initiatives until the year's end. Supporters can also engage in exclusive auctions featuring signed memorabilia and gaming gear, with all proceeds benefiting CMN Hospitals.
