When We All Vote Launches Nationwide Voting Parties Amid Intimidation Threats
In a proactive response to the current threats facing voters across the United States, When We All Vote proudly unveiled the details of its most extensive Party at the Polls initiative to date. This initiative aims to energize and empower voters, promising to present thousands of celebrations designed to enhance voter turnout across the nation. With voting rights coming under distress through various obstacles, the organization aims to connect with over 30 million individuals through outreach efforts like SMS, emails, direct calls, and digital advertisements.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Party at the Polls program, which has been officially recognized for successfully boosting voter turnout by two to four percentage points. The urgency behind this year's initiative is heightened due to the mounting efforts that hinder the voting process for millions of Americans. Marginalized groups, particularly Black and Latino communities as well as younger voters, face significant barriers. These hindrances include the elimination of voting sites on college campuses, especially at Historically Black Colleges and Universities in North Carolina, the ongoing dismantling of the Voting Rights Act, and widespread confusion surrounding voting methods, including mail-in ballots.
In response to these challenges, We The Action lawyers will join the Party at the Polls initiative by providing assistance to voters facing challenges at the polling places and ensuring that every vote counts throughout the electoral processes. According to Kalisha Dessources Figures, a Senior Advisor at When We All Vote, the objectives of the event extend beyond mere voting; they focus on creating an environment where voters can feel collective support and enthusiasm. With more than 80,000 elections occurring this November, these celebrations play a vital role in influencing key electoral outcomes nationwide.
These gatherings are framed not only as entertaining events but also as mechanisms of community support—a vital component for encouraging voter participation. In addition to numerous local events held close to polling stations by community partners, When We All Vote plans to host five major flagship events. This includes a celebration in Greensboro, North Carolina, on October 22, featuring Marsai Martin, and an event in Detroit, Michigan, on October 24, in collaboration with the Detroit Pistons and Loni Love. Other major gatherings will take place in Phoenix, Arizona, and in Jackson and Hattiesburg, Mississippi, showcasing partnerships between local organizations and When We All Vote.
To maximize reach, When We All Vote is collaborating with more than 400 community organizations, small businesses, faith-based groups, and national nonprofits to facilitate these events. High-profile partners include NAACP, ACLU, National Urban League, and various civic organizations that aim to boost voting participation. College campuses will not be excluded from this program—180 institutions have joined forces with the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge to host localized events targeting student populations.
Notably, Lyft is stepping up by providing free and discounted rides to the polls in specific regions, while Clare V. plans to host events in major cities like Washington, DC, and contribute 15% of event proceeds to support the cause. Additionally, Tony's Chocolonely is on board, supplying chocolate bars to various voting parties around the nation.
Voters can easily locate a Party at the Polls gathering near them by visiting When We All Vote’s website. While functions will span 21 states—identified as having elevated electoral risks by the Voting Rights Lab—they will particularly concentrate efforts in states like Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Texas, among others.
In 2024, over 85,000 individuals participated in the Party at the Polls events, which included community festivities throughout the week leading into the elections. Unique events have included block parties with activities like bull rides and line dancing, and coordinated walks to polling centers across regions like the Navajo Nation.
For media inquiries or interviews, press representatives are encouraged to reach out for additional details about the initiative and to connect with Civic Nation’s leadership.
