Jilin Showcases Cultural Strength in Hungary and Spain

In a significant cultural exchange initiative, Jilin Province has made notable strides in promoting its rich heritage and tourism in Hungary and Spain. This effort coincides with key diplomatic milestones: the 20th anniversary of the strategic partnership between China and Spain, alongside the 50th anniversary of formal ties between China and the European Union.

Recently, a cultural delegation from Jilin undertook a mission to these countries, aiming to enhance mutual understanding and foster collaborative opportunities in tourism, culture, and media. This mission included a vibrant art performance in Madrid that highlighted the unique elements of Jilin’s culture, engaging local audiences and fostering goodwill between nations.

Jilin's commitment to openness and modernization is evident as it seeks to attract global investors and visitors. The province is the birthplace of the Chinese automotive industry, having established the nation’s first automobile workshop in 1953. In the 1990s, Jilin advanced its automotive sector by partnering with German companies, establishing itself as a comprehensive industrial base catering to numerous categories of manufacturing.

Moreover, the Changchun Film Studio in Jilin, renowned for its rich 80-year history, is celebrated as the cradle of China's film industry. The province's vibrant cultural market is now flourishing, particularly following an upsurge in tourism since the winter of 2023.

Jilin has capitalized on its winter sports potential, particularly within the Changbai Mountains, known for their long snowy seasons and high-quality snow, positioning itself as one of the world’s prime skiing destinations, alongside Europe’s Alps and North America's Rocky Mountains.

A historical highlight features the ancient Goguryeo kingdom, which established its capital in Jilin for over 600 years. With Goguryeo being recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jilin has initiated the G331 corridor to protect its cultural heritage while showcasing the area's historical significance.

These initiatives have resulted in a remarkable surge in tourism, with visitor numbers rising by 66% and provincial revenue increasing by 69% in 2024. Cross-border tourism saw a tremendous growth of 161% year-on-year, driving development in associated sectors such as dining, accommodation, and entertainment.

The strategic promotional efforts in Hungary and Spain reflect Jilin’s vision of enhanced collaboration and cultural exchange, positioning the province as a leading participant in fostering global partnerships for mutual benefits. As Jilin continues to expand its cultural and economic footprint, it stands poised to become an influential player in international tourism and cultural diplomacy.
