Insights from Parenting: A New Initiative by Meiji Step
Meiji Co., Ltd. has recently conducted a survey to better understand the challenges faced by parents with children under three years old. With a sample of 131 parents aged 20 to 49, the survey aimed to explore their perceptions of parenting, revealing significant insights into their daily struggles.
The Survey Overview
The online survey was conducted in September 2026, focusing on parents or guardians living with children aged 1 to 2 years and 11 months. With a breakdown of 69 male and 62 female participants, the survey provided a comprehensive look into how parents view their parenting abilities.
Key Findings
One of the most striking results is that a staggering
80.2% of parents feel uncertain about whether they are doing a good job in raising their children. Many parents expressed unease over their parenting choices, indicating a common sentiment of ambiguity regarding what constitutes ‘right’ parenting.
Interestingly,
84.0% of respondents acknowledged the importance of not overstraining themselves as parents. Yet,
81.8% admitted to feeling they are not doing enough. This juxtaposition highlights a common belief among parents that while self-care is important, many still grapple with feelings of inadequacy.
When asked to rate their parenting skills out of 100, the average score was
65.1, suggesting that most parents do not feel their efforts are up to par. The reasons cited for not achieving a perfect score included feelings of frustration due to a lack of patience or time to spend fully engaging with their children.
- - 37.2% reported feeling overwhelmed and irritated,
- - 28.1% noted insufficient playtime with their children, and
- - 28.1% felt they were overly critical of their children.
These findings draw attention to the emotional toll that parenting can take, with the theme of ‘emotional space’ emerging as a significant issue for many.
Introducing the New Initiative
In light of these survey results, Meiji Step initiated a new campaign titled
“Transforming Challenges into Precious Moments”. Featuring the popular educator
Ti Sensei, this campaign aims to change the narrative of parental struggles into moments of joy shared with family.
By providing practical support and expert guidance, the initiative seeks to alleviate the anxiety surrounding nutritional needs and time spent with children, allowing families to enjoy each other’s company without stress.
A Message from Ti Sensei
Ti Sensei's involvement emphasizes the campaign's dedication to supporting parents. In the accompanying video release, he encourages parents to recognize their efforts and achievements, no matter how minor they perceive them to be. Ti states, “You don’t need to aim for perfection in parenting; what matters is the love and care you provide.”
This message resonates deeply, especially when he reminds parents to celebrate the moments they did manage to create positive experiences for their children, rather than focusing on what they feel they have failed to do.
Conclusion
Through the
“Transforming Challenges into Precious Moments” initiative, Meiji Step is committed to providing tangible support and reassurance to parents. As they continue to encourage meaningful family time amidst the chaos of parenting, the goal remains to nurture an environment where both children and parents can thrive together.
As these insights unfold, they contribute to a larger conversation about the real experiences of parenting in modern society. Meiji Step's efforts symbolize a shift towards understanding the nuanced dynamics of raising children in today's world.
