Comprehensive Review by the ADA Audit and Governance Committee



On September 1, 2026, the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) made public the findings of its Audit and Governance Committee (AGC), which conducted an independent review following an incident at the annual Scientific Sessions held in New Orleans on June 5, 2026. This initiative was prompted by a request from the ADA Board of Directors, seeking a thorough assessment of the events that unfolded during the conference.

Key Findings



The AGC's detailed report revealed that five attendees were removed from the venue due to disruptive behaviors that breached the ADA Attendee Code of Conduct. Interestingly, the materials these individuals were distributing at the time of their removal lacked any relevance to the reasons for their expulsion.

Further investigation into the responses of onsite security concluded that appropriate measures were taken to manage the situation. Notably, the report highlighted that there was no formal communication with the New Orleans Police Department regarding these disturbances. However, it clarified that police officers visible at the event were contracted security personnel, a common practice for large gatherings.

One significant point raised by the AGC was the concerning lack of communication between ADA staff, security, and conference attendees as the disruptions occurred, indicating areas ripe for improvement.
