Hikvision's Innovative Approach to Video Compression
In a groundbreaking move for the video surveillance industry, Hikvision has unveiled its latest technology,
Guanlan Encoding, which leverages artificial intelligence to significantly enhance video compression. This innovative solution allows users to save between
30% to 50% on storage space without sacrificing the quality of their crucial recordings.
As the demand for higher resolution videos and extended storage times increases, the cost of storage has become a significant factor for many organizations.
Guanlan Encoding utilizes the internationally recognized
H.265 standard and is supported by Hikvision’s extensive AI model, allowing for efficient encoding of video data based on its importance within a scene.
How Guanlan Encoding Works
Unlike traditional codecs that treat every pixel equally,
Guanlan Encoding employs intelligent algorithms to identify and prioritize important objects within a frame, such as people or vehicles, ensuring they remain clear and defined. Background data, which is often less critical, is compressed to a much greater degree, effectively maximizing storage efficiency.
Jason Yang, the Vice President of Hikvision's International Business Center, commented on the technological advancement, stating, "Storage efficiency has typically compromised quality until now. Guanlan Encoding assesses the image first and then decides what deserves to be retained in full clarity." This unique approach not only optimizes the quality of the captured footage but also significantly reduces overall storage needs.
The technology features two complementary modes:
- - Dynamic Sensing: Adjusts bit rate distribution in real-time, ensuring key details are preserved in fast-moving and complex scenarios.
- - Static Optimization: Applies extreme compression to static images or low-motion footage, allowing some frames to be reduced to just a few bytes.
By combining these modes, the encoding process transitions from a one-size-fits-all solution to a tailored,
