Enhancing Leadership Training: A New Hands-On Program in Fukuoka

In the ever-evolving world of corporate training, it has become evident that traditional workshops alone often fail to effect real change in participants' behavior. Addressing this issue head-on, Learner's Learner, a startup based in Itoshima, Fukuoka, launched an innovative 1-Day practical program titled ‘ADAPT’ in collaboration with Hue-ish Corporation. The initiative, set for February 2026, focuses on translating theoretical knowledge into practical applications in the field of leadership development.

Many organizations have established leadership training sessions, but they frequently encounter the same frustrating dilemma: employees leave the classroom filled with knowledge yet return to their jobs without making tangible changes. Recognizing the urgent need for a different approach, Learner's Learner introduced a hands-on learning experience that emphasizes real-world impact. By immersing participants in community challenges, this program aims to cultivate deeper understanding and actionable insights.

The centerpiece of the ADAPT program is an engagement with Choi-furu, a nonprofit organization located in Adachi, Tokyo, that focuses on food assistance and community support. Participants venture into the field to observe, analyze, and dialogue about social issues, gaining a holistic understanding of these challenges as interconnected systems while practicing the thinking methods acquired during prior leadership training sessions.

Program Details

  • - Program Name: ADAPT (Action Development for Advanced Practice of Thought-tools)
  • - Date: February 7, 2026
  • - Participants: 10 individuals, all alumni of Learner's Learner's leadership program.
  • - Venue: Choi-furu, Adachi, Tokyo
  • - Activities:
- Field experience involving food assistance and community support.
- System analysis to decode the structure of social challenges.
- Dialogue and discussion among participants.

Participants of this unique initiative were graduates of the ‘Managing Complexity’ program offered by Learner's Learner. They were challenged to apply their learned system thinking and dialogue practices in real-field scenarios, bridging the gap between theory and practical application.

Key Takeaways from the Program

Upon completion of the program, participants shared profound reflections on their experiences:

1. Deeper Understanding through Field Experience: Many attendees voiced that theoretical grasp of system thinking was elevated once they connected these concepts with specific field events. The sentiment of becoming part of the ecosystem while engaging with social issues provided a transformative understanding of their interconnectedness.

2. Common Structures Across Organizations: Participants noted that despite operating within different organizational frameworks—be it nonprofit or corporate—shared structural challenges seemed to exist. This realization fostered reflections on where to allocate their resources to maximize impact, identifying crucial 'leverage points' in the process.

3. Shifting Perspectives through Dialogue: The exposure to these often-overlooked societal issues brought about an awakening. Understanding that leadership isn't solely about delivering answers but involves continuous questioning was highlighted as a vital leadership attribute.

Given the insights gleaned from this initiative, evaluations reflected significant improvements. For instance, participants rated their understanding of applying systems thinking from 2.7 (before) to an impressive 3.4 (after) the program.

The joint effort led by Hue-ish Corporation was instrumental in organizing this program, handling various elements from planning to field selection and day-of operations. Hue-ish has made a name for itself in transforming corporate leadership training through the integration of dialogue, cross-experience, and peer feedback.

"Our mission is to forge next-generation leadership training that translates learning into behavior change in the workplace,” said a representative from Hue-ish. “We designed this program to move beyond mere comprehension of system thinking—enabling participants to experience it in the field. It has been rewarding to witness their deepened understanding and eagerness to apply these lessons henceforth."

Learner's Learner, founded by a former diplomat who once served as the Prime Minister’s interpreter, emphasizes actionable knowledge over theoretical knowledge, echoing the understanding that real-world applicability is crucial. As part of their ongoing strategic endeavors, they aim to periodically execute this practical program while exploring additional avenues, such as developing a web application to solidify learned materials and establishing a research lab to continuously innovate and enhance training effectiveness.

CEO Katsuaki Kurokawa stated, “Leadership is not just about acquiring knowledge. It's a capability honed through practice. Our goal is to connect learning more closely with actionable outcomes. We look forward to extending this program regularly as we promote a novel educational model that bridges knowledge with action.”
