Oisix's Research Sheds Light on May Syndrome and the Benefits of Meal Support Services

Understanding May Syndrome Through Oisix's Survey

The phenomenon known as "May Syndrome," particularly prevalent in the wake of Golden Week, is a time when many individuals find their mental and physical health compromised. Oisix, a Japanese food subscription service, sought to investigate this by conducting a survey that unveiled some alarming truths about how widely this condition affects people.

The Findings of the Survey

Conducted between April 25 and 27, 2025, this internet survey encompassed a diverse group of 838 Japanese citizens aged 15 to 65. The results revealed that approximately 45% of participants experienced symptoms related to May Syndrome. Among those, a striking 71% reported feeling fatigued and lethargic, while 57% noted a decline in their energy and motivation levels. Moreover, 84% of respondents acknowledged that these symptoms adversely influenced their daily activities such as work and household chores.

A significant portion of the respondents identified proper rest and sleep as the key to alleviating these problems; 66% agreed that sufficient rest could mitigate May Syndrome's effects. Paradoxically, however, 60% admitted that they were unable to obtain adequate rest, with the primary reason cited by 62% being the demands of work and household tasks.

The Demand for Support Services

In light of these challenges, an encouraging 50% of participants expressed willingness to use household support services aimed at combating May Syndrome. The results were clear regarding the types of assistance desired: 47% showed interest in meal preparation, 44% in meal planning, 36% in grocery shopping, and 33% in tidying up after meals. This data from Oisix highlights the growing necessity for services that simplify these everyday tasks and alleviate the burden on busy individuals and families.

Oisix's Innovative Solutions

Oisix has been responsive to these needs, particularly for dual-income households balancing work and family life. Since 2013, the company has provided the "Kit Oisix," a meal kit that delivers ingredients and recipes to create a main and side dish in just 20 minutes. In 2024, they expanded their offerings with "Deli Oisix," a service delivering ready-to-heat, nutritious meals, designed specifically for busy families. This service, which includes a combination of main and side dishes, has become immensely popular, achieving over 700,000 meals sold in its first year alone.

Advertising Campaign to Raise Awareness

As part of an effort to further communicate the benefits of "Deli Oisix," the company will run an advertising campaign on Tokyo's Den-en-toshi Line from May 19 to May 25, 2025. This campaign aims to bridge the gap between the company and its clientele by sharing testimonials from satisfied customers who have found relief in Oisix's offerings.

Conclusion

The mounting pressure from work and household duties can lead to serious challenges for many individuals, especially during the stress-inducing months following Golden Week. With 60% of survey respondents struggling to receive adequate rest, support services such as those offered by Oisix may provide the perfect antidote to the pressures of modern life. By simplifying meal preparation and providing nutritious options, Oisix seeks to help busy families regain balance and well-being.
