Delivering Smiles to Children in Noto Through Motorbiking: A Report on the Nippon Support Touring Event

Delivering Smiles to Children in Noto Through Motorbiking

The Nippon Support Touring event, organized by the Japan Riders Forum (JRF) on September 15, 2025, aimed to uplift the spirits of children in the earthquake-affected region of Wajima, Noto Peninsula. With the participation of 44 riders and 80 local residents, the event provided a heartwarming interaction focused on care and support for the affected community.

Background of the Event

The Noto Peninsula has been grappling with the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in January of the previous year and subsequent heavy rains in September. These disasters have cast a long shadow over the hearts of the local residents, particularly the children who continue to live in temporary housing amid uncertainties about the future.

Previously, our volunteer efforts included food distribution, moving belongings, and beach cleanup. However, this event shifted its focus to directly addressing the emotional needs of the children and their parents in the disaster-impacted area. With a mission to bring smiles, convey that they are cared for, and contribute to their healthy growth, riders from across the nation gathered for this meaningful initiative.

Exciting Traffic Safety Class with White Motorcycles

The event kicked off with an engaging traffic safety class led by the Wajima police department and the Ishikawa Prefectural Traffic Unit. The demonstration with two white patrol motorcycles left even seasoned riders impressed. When children were encouraged by the friendly motorcycle riders, they hesitantly ventured to sit on the bikes, their eyes lighting up as they explored the controls enthusiastically.

Warm Udon for Body and Soul

Lunch was a delightful experience, with fresh, hot udon served to participants, thanks in part to three students from Kanazawa Seiryo University’s Red Cross Volunteer Club. In a touching moment, a resident from the temporary housing remarked, “Recently there haven’t been any food distributions; usually, volunteers only visit central Wajima near the morning markets. I’m so delighted that you came to our area today.” This acknowledgement reaffirmed the significance of our ongoing efforts.

A Joyful Interaction with Local High School Baseball Players

In the afternoon, members of the Monzen High School baseball team, who had just finished practice at a nearby field, joined the festivities. They eagerly inquired about the differences between on-road and off-road motorcycles, leading to a lively exchange filled with smiles. Various activities followed, including games like “Daruma-san fell down” and quizzes themed around anime, allowing both adults and children to partake in joyous recreation.

Closing Remarks

While the daily lives of the disaster survivors, especially the children, remain far from normal, we left the venue with hope that the day had provided them with some comfort. Embracing our slogan, “Transform the joy of riding into joy for society,” we have utilized our passion for motorcycling and companionship to contribute to the recovery of the affected areas.

The “Children’s Play Square” marks the final volunteer activity for the Nippon Support Touring 2025. We extend heartfelt thanks to the many riders who actively participated in the initiatives this year, meeting numerous smiling faces—especially those of the children affected by the disaster—was our utmost joy. Next year, we look forward to continuing our support for recovery efforts, and we appreciate your ongoing assistance and cooperation.

Employing the unique mobility of motorcycles to access areas difficult to reach by vehicles, the initiative evolved from earlier activities to a larger scope, creating joy both in riding and in giving back to the community’s recovery efforts.
