Takashimaya Historical Museum in Tokyo is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for those interested in joining the Sanno Festival’s Chinese procession. Scheduled for June 12, 2026, this historic event, held in the heart of Tokyo, invites
20 participants to join the procession wearing traditional costumes that will be provided free of charge.
The Sanno Festival and Its Historical Significance
The Sanno Festival is one of the
three major festivals in Edo and recognized as a significant event in Japan's cultural history. Celebrated since the Edo period, the festival attracts attendees with its grandeur and vibrant parade, reminiscent of the historical ambiance of old Edo. The key highlight is the
Shinko-sai, a procession that winds through the city, showcasing a blend of cultural heritage and exciting festivities.
The festival will also feature the
balloon “Zou Yamashita”, which adds to the festive atmosphere. This float made its debut in 2024 and symbolizes Japan's rich relationship with elephants—a relationship that dates back to the time when an elephant was brought to Edo from Vietnam during the era of Shogun Yoshimune.
