Tokyobike Takes Over Pep Cycles
In an exciting development for cycling enthusiasts, Tokyobike, a prominent bicycle manufacturer based in Koto City, Tokyo, has announced that it will take over the manufacturing and sales operations of the popular bicycle brand Pep Cycles. Founded by Takushi Ebine in 2017, Pep Cycles has made a significant mark in the biking community with its philosophy of encouraging individuals to enjoy their rides and explore the world around them.
Starting from August 8, 2026, the basic model of Pep Cycles, the NS-S1, will be re-released at Pep Cycles retailers and at the tokyobike Yanaka Soil store. Furthermore, other Tokyobike shops are expected to begin carrying the NS-S1 from September 2026. This collaboration marks a new chapter for both brands, merging their commitment to quality and customer-centric bicycle design.
The Essence of Pep Cycles
The philosophy behind Pep Cycles is rooted in the principle of “Keep using, Keep riding.” Ebine’s vision for creating a versatile bicycle allows riders to break free from conventional cycling limits, encouraging them to explore not just the city streets but also less traveled paths like gravel roads or even take trips for weekend camping. This bike is not just about performance; it proposes a new concept where users can enjoy the freedom of mobility without the pressure of speed.
With Togoyobike's understated approach to cycling, emphasizing the joy of everyday rides, Pep Cycles provides an extension of that experience. The collaboration aims to offer tools that awaken new discoveries within one's daily surroundings, and further adventures beyond it.
Pep Cycles Design Philosophy
The origins of Ebine’s dedication to bicycles stem from a childhood adventure around the Boso Peninsula, where the excitement of cycling over a mountain range and discovering the ocean created a lifelong passion. This experience molded his view of cycling as a means of self-expression and exploration. With over three decades of experience in the cycling industry, Ebine recognized a shift in his lifestyle that called for a bicycle that was not only high-performing but also well-adapted to everyday life. Thus, Pep Cycles was born—stripped down to essentials yet designed with room for personal customization.
The NS-S1 model exemplifies this principle, designed with a robust chromoly frame that allows for various upgrades and customization to fit changing lifestyles. It supports diverse riding environments, from city commutes to off-road adventures, embodying the motto:
