Walmart Mexico Enhances Partnership with Vusion for Technology Deployment
Walmart de México y Centroamérica, the largest retailer in Mexico, is taking significant steps towards digital transformation by deepening its partnership with Vusion, a global leader in AI-driven digitalization solutions for physical retail. This collaboration aims to deploy Vusion's EdgeSense connected store platform across Walmart Express locations and eventually extend it to Walmart Supercenters, marking a major technological advancement in the region.
The Expansion of EdgeSense Technology
This initiative is built on the successful deployments of connected store technologies previously implemented in Walmart stores across the United States. With EdgeSense, Walmart Mexico is poised to modernize its shopping environments.
Beginning with Walmart Express, all stores are expected to be fully equipped with EdgeSense technology by the end of 2026. This will represent a significant expansion of the platform's deployment in Latin America. The anticipated rollout to Walmart Supercenters will further accelerate Walmart's digital modernization strategy.
As part of the initial deployment, Walmart Express stores will introduce over 1.7 million electronic labels and more than 180,000 EdgeSense smart rails. This positions Walmart Mexico among the leaders in implementing connected store technology in Latin America. Additionally, Walmart will test EdgeSense in its Bodega format, assessing its capabilities for future store formats within its long-term connected store strategy.
Understanding EdgeSense
EdgeSense is Vusion's next-generation connected store platform that integrates intelligent in-store infrastructure with computer vision, artificial intelligence, electronic labels, and real-time retail data. This unified operating system for physical stores enables retailers to automate in-store operations, improve inventory accuracy, and unlock new data-driven capabilities in merchandising and shopper interactions.
Goals of This Initiative
Walmart Mexico's initiative aims to:
- - Provide a more personalized and seamless customer experience.
- - Enhance associate productivity through workflow automation and reduction of manual tasks.
- - Modernize stores with AI-ready infrastructure, paving the way for future innovation.
Paul Lewellen, Chief Operating Officer of Walmart de México y Centroamérica, expressed enthusiasm about the deployment of EdgeSense, stating, "This initiative represents a significant step forward in enhancing our operational capabilities while continually improving the shopping experience for millions of customers across Mexico."

By combining AI, computer vision, and real-time data, EdgeSense assists retailers in achieving new levels of operational excellence while delivering better experiences for both associates and customers."
