A Successful Conclusion to the 7th China International Import Expo
The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) came to a successful close on November 10th in Shanghai, marking a significant milestone in fostering global trade. This year, the event not only highlighted the achievements of the previous editions but also introduced a plethora of new opportunities for international collaboration. With confirmed tentative deals totaling a remarkable USD 80.01 billion, the expo recorded a 2% increase compared to last year.
Global Participation at its Peak
Showcasing its critical role as a platform for global interactions, this year's CIIE welcomed representatives from 77 countries and international organizations across five continents. The Comprehensive Country Exhibition was a spectacular demonstration of diverse cultures, national identities, and cutting-edge technologies. Each booth was thoughtfully designed, reflecting its country's uniqueness, and a staggering 200 events captivated attendees throughout the expo.
In total,
3,496 companies participated from
129 nations, featuring major contributions from the Belt and Road Initiative (1,585 companies from 104 countries) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (1,106 companies from 13 countries). Additionally, exhibitors from
35 least developed countries also made their presence felt with
132 booths.
Showcasing Innovations
Innovation remained a focal point at the CIIE, particularly within the dedicated Innovation Incubation Special Section. This year, it featured a remarkable
360 innovative projects from
34 countries, underscoring the event's commitment to nurturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups. Multinational corporations made their mark, unveiling
450 new products, services, and technologies—including over
100 global debuts,
40 Asia premieres, and more than
200 China-exclusive launches. This influx of innovative offerings is poised to fuel new consumer demand significantly.
The Hongqiao International Economic Forum
An important feature of the CIIE is the Hongqiao International Economic Forum (HQF), which consistently attracts global attention. In its 7th iteration, the forum drew over
8,600 registrations and showcased more than
300 prominent minds from politics, business, and academia. With discussions centered on current global issues, the HQF played a pivotal role in enriching the conversations around international cooperation.
Notably, the forum also unveiled the
World Openness Report 2024 along with the
World Openness Index, providing important insights and reinforcing the message of global openness and collaboration.

The success of the 7th CIIE clearly illustrates its significance as an international platform for trade and economic interaction. With preparations already underway for the 8th CIIE, the event is poised to further expand opportunities that invite diverse nations and organizations to join in global trade.
