Fresno's Stride for Hope Run/Walk Returns!
The
Donor Network West Foundation is excited to announce the return of the
Stride for Hope Run/Walk in
Fresno, California. Scheduled for
Saturday, September 20, this event aims to commemorate organ donors and features a
5K route designed not only to promote physical health but also to elevate awareness on the significant importance of organ donations.
Running enthusiasts, community members, and families are encouraged to participate, either individually or as a team. Online registration is available at
DonorNetworkWest.org/5k-run-walk, making it easy for anyone wishing to join and contribute. This year the event will commence at
7:30 AM at
Shakespeare Field, located within
Woodward Park on
7775 N. Friant Road.
The event's central focus is to raise funds that directly benefit programs and services designed for organ donor families and transplant recipients. Every step participants take in this year's event will further assist in enhancing vital avenues for education and resources within the organ donation community.
Honoring the Legacy of Organ Donors
Among this year’s honorees is
Patrice Sanders, a dedicated pediatric nurse who spent over 36 years at
Valley Children's Hospital. After suffering a stroke in 2024, Sands made it clear she wished to help others through organ donation. Her legacy lives on, as her kidneys were donated to individuals on the national transplant waiting list. Her family is participating in the event by forming
Team Patrice, aimed at honoring her commitment to help others.
Also joining the event is
Team DaVita Kidney Care, comprising 86 members, making them the largest group at this year’s festivities. Their participation emphasizes the collaborative efforts of organizations dedicated to improving lives and raising awareness about kidney health, aligning perfectly with the event's purpose.
The
Fresno Run/Walk, presented by
Blue Skies Transplant, is projected to attract nearly
300 participants this year, with a largely supporting community and several business sponsors. Support for the event will also come from notable speakers, including
Janice Whaley, President and CEO of Donor Network West, and former NFL player **William
