Allegiant Air Pilots Announce Vote of No Confidence Against Management Team
Allegiant Air Pilots Prepare for Vote of No Confidence
Las Vegas, August 14, 2025. The pilots of Allegiant Air, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 2118, have declared their intention to hold a formal Vote of No Confidence against the airline's current management team and its Board of Directors. This decision emerges after a series of disastrous leadership choices that have jeopardized the airline's future, particularly in light of ongoing contract negotiations.
Captain Kevn Winter emphasized the pilots' sentiments, stating, "Contract or not, [Maury] Gallagher and [Greg] Anderson's management team have demonstrated a lack of capability in leading an airline. The last several years are marked by a string of failures; if pilots experienced even 1% of this level of failure in the cockpit, our careers would be over. It’s time for accountability."
Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien described the management culture at Allegiant as "toxic," driven by arrogance, and comprised of individuals who lack the qualifications to understand the pilots' operational challenges. Recent events have exacerbated the situation, including a market value collapse by 50% over just six months, significant financial losses from the failed Sunseeker Resort project, and the dismantling of its GMS Racing NASCAR team. Moreover, the management's pursuit of unrelated and costly ventures, such as the 'Allegiant Nonstop' entertainment centers, has fueled dissatisfaction among pilots.
The sentiment among pilots is that these failures, together with extravagant executive perks, have eroded trust in the management, putting the airline’s future at risk. Captain Tyler Heavey remarked, "We are doing this to safeguard the airline and the Allegiant brand that we built. It seems like this management team is on a path to destroy what we've established due to their ego and greed."
Critics have referred to recent management practices, such as flying in private jets for base visits to meet pilots while claiming the company can't afford a new contract, as a glaring sign of misplaced priorities. "Flying fancy private jets around the country to tell pilots they 'can’t afford' a new contract is a level of tone-deaf arrogance we haven’t seen since the disasters of Frank Lorenzo’s Eastern Airlines back in the 1990s,” commented one pilot.
Greg Unterseher, Trustee of Local 2118, stated, “A no-confidence vote is a serious decision taken by any union. The pilots believe that change is crucial for the well-being of the airline, its employees, customers, and shareholders.” The Teamsters emphasized that the impending Vote of No Confidence is not merely about contract negotiations; it represents a broader call for revamped leadership and corporate governance to ensure the airline's long-term stability and success.
