Upcoming Exhibition: 'Collection 1' at the National Museum of Art
Starting June 28, 2025, the National Museum of Art in Osaka will host the exhibition 'Collection 1', running until October 5, 2025. This multifaceted show will showcase two main components: the special exhibit titled 'Post-War Art: Circles and Rings' and the year-round display 'Collection Highlights'.
Spotlight on 'Post-War Art: Circles and Rings'
The special exhibition 'Post-War Art: Circles and Rings' revolves around the exploration of various forms that embody circular shapes, such as circles and rings. These simple yet profound figures are recurring motifs in post-war Japanese art, reflecting the diverse intentions of artists. The exhibition aims to dissect the significance of these round forms—geometric yet smooth, organic yet definite—focusing on their multifaceted roles in artistic expression.
With an array of perspectives, visitors will have the opportunity to engage with thought-provoking questions surrounding the use of circular shapes in art.
Collection Highlights: A Showcase of Masterpieces
On the other hand, the 'Collection Highlights' will present a selection of the museum's esteemed holdings alongside newly acquired works. Art lovers can expect to see masterpieces by Henri Matisse, Paul Cézanne, and Max Ernst, as well as contemporary pieces by Joseph Beuys, Takashi Murakami, and Maureen Gallace. This expansive selection will illuminate the evolving landscape of modern art, offering a glimpse into the museum's rich portfolio, which spans both historical and contemporary practices.
