MediaTek Introduces Advanced IoT Platforms for AI Applications at Embedded World 2025

MediaTek Unveils the Genio 720 and Genio 520 IoT Platforms

At the Embedded World event in Nuremberg, Germany, MediaTek has made headlines with the launch of its next-generation IoT platforms: the Genio 720 and Genio 520. These cutting-edge platforms are designed specifically to cater to the needs of generative AI applications across various sectors, including smart homes, retail spaces, and industrial environments.

The Genio 720 and Genio 520 are powered by an advanced architecture that promises significant computing capabilities. With performance benchmarks soaring up to 10 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second), these platforms are equipped with MediaTek's 8th-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This NPU provides comprehensive hardware acceleration for both transformer and convolutional neural networks, which are core to modern AI applications. Furthermore, the platforms boast an impressive memory capacity, supporting up to 16GB of LPDDR5, enabling the handling of large data sets essential for training and deploying AI models such as Llama and DeepSeek.

CK Wang, General Manager of MediaTek's IoT Business Group, asserted that these new platforms will mark a transformative phase in IoT innovation. He highlighted the capabilities of the Genio series in delivering rich user experiences while maintaining strict data privacy protocols. The integration of NVIDIA TAO and widely used AI models enhances the versatility of these platforms, allowing developers to scale their solutions across a multitude of devices—from sophisticated commercial displays to interactive home technologies.

Optimally built on a 6nm process node, the Genio 720 and Genio 520 feature a robust octa-core CPU configuration, comprising two high-performance Arm Cortex-A78 processors paired with six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores. This design not only heightens processing efficiency but also aligns with low-power consumption requirements crucial for mobile and battery-powered applications. These platforms are invaluable in settings requiring quiet operations without the need for cooling fans, thus broadening their applicability in various consumer and industrial scenarios.

The multimedia capabilities of these Genio platforms are particularly noteworthy. They support single 4K/5K ultra-wide displays or dual 2.5K screens, catering to the demands of high-resolution image presentations. Notably, they come equipped for power-efficient 4K video decoding and encoding with robust dual ISP functionalities, supporting up to 32MP cameras for high-quality imaging applications. Additionally, the platforms are compatible with advanced connectivity solutions, including pre-integrated MediaTek Wi-Fi 6/6E and support for Wi-Fi 7 and external 5G Redcap modules.

Developer experiences are set to improve significantly with the Genio platforms. The unified hardware and software environment facilitates a
