Results of Demonstration Tests

The demonstration tests, outlined in a detailed report, focused on operational improvements in two fundamental areas:
1. Building Efficient Daytime Operation: The deployment of daytime vehicles allowed T2 to measure operation schedules, leading to potential avoidance of capacity overload at key switch hubs during peak hours. By strategically coupling daytime and nighttime operations, T2 aims to enhance transportation capacity and ensure consistent operation.

Operational Improvements

2. Remote Vehicle Monitoring and Emergency Response: Within a designated area on the New Tomei Expressway, T2 tested remote monitoring devices to detect abnormalities. The process for urgent response was established, confirming collaboration among remote monitors, operations managers, and responsible personnel. Enhanced coordination will be pursued to improve response times and mitigate secondary damages, requiring dialogue with relevant agencies.

Future Prospects

Following the initial meeting, T2 has been engaging with participating companies through monthly working groups to advance toward the deployment of Level 4 autonomous trucks for trunk transportation, slated for 2027. Building upon the insights gathered from this meeting, T2 plans to continue discussions with involved ministries and academic experts, aiming to tie various policies and research outcomes to the realization of Level 4 autonomous trucks.
