XCMG XCA4000: A Milestone in Sustainable Energy with the Tallest Wind Turbine Installation

In the realm of energy transition, XCMG's 4,000-ton all-terrain crane, the XCA4000, has achieved a remarkable feat. It has been instrumental in the construction of the Ordos Zero-Carbon Industrial Park in China, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at creating the world's first fully operational carbon-neutral industrial zone. This park not only utilizes 100% green electricity, derived chiefly from wind and solar energies, but also incorporates energy storage, showcasing a progressive step toward sustainable infrastructure.

Launched in December 2024, the XCA4000 is designed for the challenging task of erecting large wind turbines with hub heights reaching up to 190 meters and power outputs of up to 15 MW. This state-of-the-art crane is powered by a robust Weichai diesel engine, delivering 566 kW of energy. Its 11-axle layout, measuring a total length of 29.7 meters, allows for exceptional maneuverability, with 8 of the axles being drive axles. This engineered flexibility is pivotal when navigating the complex conditions of a construction site.

During a recent operation, the XCA4000 successfully lifted a gondola and drivetrain weighing 117 tons, accompanied by massive 35-ton blades extending 118 meters in length, to an impressive altitude of 190 meters. This elevation is equivalent to that of a 60-story skyscraper, highlighting the crane's significant capabilities in large-scale projects. Each stage of the lift, including elevation, rotation, alignment, and positioning, was executed with exceptional efficiency and precision, earning accolades from project stakeholders and contractors alike.

Operator Yang expressed his admiration for the XCA4000's advanced technology, particularly its flexible steering and driving modes, which simplified the handling of this massive crane. During the installation of the 12.5 MW hybrid tower wind turbine—the tallest on land as of now—the crane's efficiency was on full display. Two separate lift operations were completed in just over twenty minutes each.

The XCA4000 serves as a testament to XCMG's commitment to creating intelligent, environmentally friendly, and high-end solutions that cater to growing international markets. As the world increasingly shifts toward green energy, the XCA4000 is leading the way in overcoming the challenges posed by ultra-high capacity wind turbine installations. This dedication to sustainability underscores China's efforts in environmental progress and reinforces the importance of innovative machinery in the transition to a cleaner energy future. By elevating the standard for construction equipment, the XCA4000 not only transforms energy infrastructure but also contributes to global energy efficiency goals.
