Davenport Aviation Achieves Major Milestone with Virtus 'First Shot'
Davenport Aviation, a leader in aerospace innovation, recently celebrated the successful conclusion of the Virtus 'First Shot' tests, which took place last month in West Texas. This event marks a significant milestone in the development of the Virtus modular weapon system and the initial combat test of the H125 platform. The test campaign included multiple successful missile launches, confirming the Virtus as a proven, combat-capable configuration of the AS350/H125.
During the tests, the performance and operational integrity of the Virtus system was validated, showcasing its structural integrity and system integration on the AS350/H125 airframe. This achievement cements Davenport Aviation's commitment to producing a fully functional and mission-ready armed configuration capable of supporting modern military and security operations.
Rob McMillin, Vice President of Aircraft and Aircraft Systems at Davenport Aviation, commented on the significance of this achievement: "This was a pivotal milestone for Davenport Aviation and the Virtus team. Completing our First Shot test campaign validates the technology underlying the system and proves that the H125 can be operated safely and effectively in an armed configuration."
The Virtus system is the world's first modular weapon system specifically designed for the AS350/H125 family, allowing operators to quickly configure a single aircraft for various mission profiles. With installations and transitions taking less than an hour, the Virtus enables seamless shifts between roles.
Versatility is at the heart of Virtus's design, supporting configurable armaments that range from miniguns and unguided rockets to precision-guided munitions and air-to-ground effects. The system is equipped with EO/IR sensors, door gun options, hoists, searchlights, cargo capacity, ballistic protection, and emergency floats, facilitating a wide array of missions including armed reconnaissance, ISR, special operations, search and rescue, firefighting, humanitarian aid, and CASEVAC/MEDEVAC operations.
Chris Arnold, Director of Government Sales at Davenport Aviation, expressed his enthusiasm for the project's outcome: "The success of First Shot confirms our goal of building a true multi-role aircraft that provides operators with flexibility without the costs and complexities of traditional attack platforms. Virtus allows global operators to meet changing mission requirements with a single, cost-effective helicopter."
Davenport Aviation extends its gratitude to XP Services, Moog Inc., and Ember Solutions for their collaborative efforts in achieving this significant milestone. By leveraging the proven AS350/H125 platform, Virtus empowers operators to modernize their existing fleets while reducing acquisition costs, training efforts, and life cycle expenses.
