The award was presented by Shauna Winston, a Respiratory Care Practitioner at Dynarex, during the National EMS Awards of Excellence, as part of an event that saw numerous professionals from across the nation gathered to highlight the best in emergency health care.
Recognizing Compassionate Leadership
The Federation has given the FRCA award annually for nine years, recognizing individuals and organizations passionate about public health and safety. With this accolade, Dynarex reaffirms its appreciation for the courage and dedication demonstrated by EMS professionals across the country.
Bill Roberts, Vice President of Global Sales at Dynarex, remarked, "Jeremy Sonenschein has dedicated his career to helping others, whether in the field, in educational settings, or through mentorship of upcoming EMS professionals. At Dynarex, we are honored to recognize such commitment that leaves a lasting impact on the EMS community and society at large."
Captain Jeremy Sonenschein's Journey
With over three decades in fire fighting, emergency medical services, and emergency management, Captain Jeremy Sonenschein has built an illustrious career focused on education, leadership, and advocacy. His journey began at a young age of 16 when he volunteered with the American Red Cross in Los Angeles. He further served as a Reserve Firefighter/EMT with the Los Angeles City Fire Department and a paramedic with the Fire Department of New York, where he responded to critical events like the aftermath of September 11 and assisted during disaster relief operations in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
In 2007, he established a county-accredited fire and EMS training program at Francis Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley, California, aimed primarily at at-risk youth. This initiative allows students to gain certifications as emergency medical responders, paving their way to higher education and meaningful careers in healthcare. To date, Jeremy has trained thousands of aspiring EMS professionals and continues his teaching and consultancy work with various fire departments and EMS organizations nationwide, prioritizing advanced training techniques and mental health awareness within the field.
Moreover, Captain Sonenschein advocates for pediatric safety as the Nevada Family Advisory Representative on the EMS for Children Advisory Committee, focusing on injury prevention programs for young individuals. His invaluable contributions have not gone unnoticed, earning accolades from several esteemed organizations including the American Red Cross and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, that honored him with the EMS Educator of the Year title in 2018.
