Charichari Announces New Bicycle Sharing Initiative in Fukuoka

Charichari Launches New Bicycle Sharing Initiative

Charichari, a prominent bike-sharing service, is taking significant strides in Fukuoka, Japan, with its new business plan set to run from April 2025 to March 2031. Recently, Charichari was designated as the priority operator for this project, aiming to support public transportation and enhance mobility within the region. The company's CEO, Kentaro Ikemoto, had the honor of presenting the strategic outline to Fukuoka's Mayor Soichiro Takashima on May 30, 2025, marking the beginning of an exciting journey for urban transportation.

In light of this announcement, Charichari organized a special event titled "The Realities and Outlook of Collaborative Business in Local Communities – Shaping Fukuoka's Future in Urban Development with Students". The event took place at Fukuoka Growth Next and aimed to engage the future leaders of the city. Approximately 40 students participated, showcasing Charichari's commitment to fostering dialogue with the younger generation.

Enhancing Urban Mobility

From its inception in June 2018 as part of the Fukuoka Smart Bicycle Sharing Pilot Project, Charichari has been dedicated to providing an eco-friendly mobility solution that serves both residents and visitors. By officially launching the Fukuoka Smart Bicycle Sharing Project in April 2020, Charichari has contributed to the improvement of urban connectivity and the reduction of environmental impact.

Under the new plan, Charichari aims for several key improvements:

1. Increased Convenience: Expanding service areas, increasing the number of docking ports, and adding more bicycles to accommodate growing demand.
2. Strengthening Urban Transport Functions: Collaborating effectively with public transportation systems to provide seamless mobility.
3. Data Utilization: Contributing to urban policy improvements through the strategic use of operational data.
4. Safety and Economic Revitalization: Ensuring a safe and secure usage environment while boosting local economies through enhanced mobility.

As part of the expansion strategy, Charichari plans to extend its services to the Nanakuma Line area, specifically Hashimoto and Nokuta, by September 2025, with annual expansions planned thereafter.

Student Engagement for Future Development

The special event emphasized Charichari's commitment to establishing a vision for city development in collaboration with students. During the event, CEO Ikemoto shared insights into the company’s journey, aspirations, and the implications of the new business plan. The interactive session encouraged students to participate in discussions regarding the future direction of Charichari and the broader context of urban planning.

Charichari's dedication to addressing urban mobility challenges aligns with its goal of realizing a new model of public transportation in Fukuoka. The company is continually striving to contribute to communal development through collaborations and partnerships with local stakeholders.
