Indigo Achieves Major Milestone in Carbon Sequestration with Nearly a Megaton of Credits Issued
Indigo's Remarkable Progress in Carbon Sequestration
In an impressive development within the agricultural sector, Indigo Agriculture has announced the issuance of its fourth carbon crop—over half a million independently verified carbon credits. This achievement pushes the total carbon removals stored in U.S. cropland to nearly a megaton. The success of Indigo's carbon program exemplifies the impact of innovative agricultural practices designed to enhance sustainability and environmental health.
Since 2018, Indigo's carbon program has successfully sequestered or abated approximately 927,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent, the volume sufficient to power about 178,000 American homes annually. This program stands out as it promotes healthy soil practices that harness solar energy to store carbon and maintain water systems—offering a more sustainable alternative to traditional carbon capture methods that depend heavily on water and energy.
One remarkable statistic from Indigo's program reveals that it has conserved over 64 billion gallons of water, equivalent to the annual consumption of about 584,000 U.S. households. The latest report cites an additional conservation of 20 billion gallons, illustrating the sustainable benefits that healthy soils provide beyond carbon containment.
