Midea Showcases R290 Technology and Sustainable HVAC Innovations at IFA 2026

Midea, a global leader in air conditioning, has once again taken center stage at IFA 2026, introducing an advanced lineup of sustainable and eco-friendly HVAC solutions. With their innovative use of R290 refrigerant, the company underscores its dedication to environmental responsibility under the banner of a "Green Vision, Blue Future."

For over 16 years, Midea has been at the forefront of R290 technology, leading the development of systems centered around safety and compressor performance while aiding in climate control. This refrigerant boasts an exceptionally low global warming potential (GWP), almost zero CO2 emissions, no harmful PFAS substances, and approximately 10% greater energy efficiency compared to traditional refrigerants.

During the event, passersby were given a unique opportunity to witness the inner workings of Midea’s HVAC technology through a transparent model display. This illustration effectively conveyed the harmony between environmental stewardship and high performance that Midea embodies. Since 2018, Midea has sold over 10 million R290 air conditioners globally, significantly contributing to carbon emission reductions—about 5.2 million tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e), the equivalent of the carbon absorption of 6.2 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest.

Among the impressive solutions presented was the H-Pack, a state-of-the-art indoor heat pump developed by Midea's European R&D team. Its compact design eliminates the need for an external unit, easing many common homeowner concerns regarding noise, installation space, and architectural restrictions. This innovative system has been engineered to facilitate installation while minimizing maintenance difficulties. Furthermore, remote diagnostics empower technicians to troubleshoot and resolve issues without being physically present, thus reducing service visits and associated costs. Notably, H-Pack supports hybrid and fully electric heating modes, granting flexibility and heightened efficiency to European households.

Midea also introduced PortaSplit, showcased in a realistic European residential environment. Renowned for its straightforward installation and quiet operation, PortaSplit allows users to steer clear of pricey installation challenges while ensuring a comfortable indoor atmosphere. This product is expected to adopt R290 refrigerant by 2027.

VitaBreeze: A New Era of Adaptable Comfort

The newly launched VitaBreeze made a significant impact at IFA 2026, earning the Innovation Technology Award for its forward-thinking design in air flow management. Ralph Kobsik, CEO of Midea Europe GmbH, proudly accepted this award during the event. VitaBreeze features the cutting-edge "AirGrid" technology that maps the room and lets users visualize airflow directly from their smartphones. With occupancy detection, air flow can be tailored to follow users or move away according to individual preferences. Plus, its wide-angle air distribution guarantees consistent comfort throughout the room.

An additional advancement, Breezeless Pro technology, further extends airflow coverage by 30%, delivering gentle cooling without disturbing drafts. Other noteworthy features include precise humidity control with "ClimaBalance" and the ECOMASTER 2.0 system, which employs predictive energy optimization, enhancing user comfort while minimizing energy consumption.

Intelligent Energy Management for Greener Homes

Midea also revealed Raynor Pro, a flagship heating solution engineered for Nordic climates. This unit is capable of functioning at frigid temperatures as low as -40 °C while maintaining 100% heating capacity at -25 °C. Its A+++ energy efficiency rating in both heating and cooling modes reflects Midea’s commitment to energy-efficient technology. The product has also received accolades like the iF Design Award due to its unique aesthetic design, created by Midea's Milan-based design team.

Completing this lineup is MHELIOS, Midea's intelligent home energy management solution. Demonstrated in a typical residential set-up, MHELIOS optimizes energy storage and consumption based on dynamic electricity rates, effectively cutting costs and contributing to grid stability. It complies with German EnWG regulations (Section 14a) and integrates chargers for electric vehicles, heat pumps, solar systems, and battery storage, promoting maximum utilization of clean energy without compromising home comfort.
