First Mold Relocates Prototype Division and Expands Production Capacity

Zhongshan, China – September 25, 2025 – First Mold, a leading manufacturer of precision plastic parts and rapid prototyping, has announced a strategic move to relocate its prototype department closer to its core operations in the Gangkou Industrial Park. This initiative aims to address issues associated with production inefficiencies that have arisen due to logistical challenges since the company opened its Dongsheng plant in 2010, located 13.5 kilometers from the industrial park.

The geographical separation has led to operational delays, as technicians faced long commutes and equipment deployment took longer than necessary. By consolidating operations, First Mold expects to increase its CNC usage rate to 90% and make room for new injection molding machines, enhancing its production capacity by 10%. For clients, this translates into shorter cycle times and a cost reduction ranging from 5% to 8%.

According to General Manager James Li, “Both the CNC machines in the new industrial park and the old factory will be utilized for rapid prototyping and tooling projects. This decision was crucial in maximizing machine workflow efficiency. Technicians previously faced commutes exceeding 25 kilometers, which resulted in significant annual labor hour wastage.”

Key Implications of First Mold’s Strategic Restructuring

To successfully transition, First Mold has leased a new facility spanning over 645,000 square feet, situated a mere 0.8 kilometers from the newly developed industrial park. This relocation will centralize over 60 CNC machines and more than 20 3D printing machines, which were previously split between the two locations.

James Li emphasized, “This isn't merely a shift; it signifies a reorganization of our production logic. The new layout will eradicate technician commuting time entirely and reduce equipment setup time by 80%. Our goal is to elevate the CNC usage rate above 90%.”

Moreover, First Mold will cease operations at the Dongsheng plant and make significant investments in new machinery from brands like JSW, GF+, and Haitian to augment its monthly production capacity of precision injection-molded parts.
