Shohei Ohtani's Golden Exhibition: A Must-See Event
From September 2 to September 7, 2026, the Okayama Takashimaya will host a spectacular exhibition known as the
Golden Exhibition. This unique display is organized by
SGC, a Tokyo-based company specializing in gold manufacturing and sales, as well as precious metal appraisals. The event promises to be a visual and magnanimous feast, focusing primarily on exquisite gold products, including two life-size golden statues of the renowned MLB athlete
Shohei Ohtani—one as a batter and the other as a pitcher.
Life-Size Golden Statues of Shohei Ohtani
For fans of Shohei Ohtani, this event is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. SGC will showcase
“The Golden Batter Shohei Ohtani” and
“The Golden Pitcher Shohei Ohtani”. These stunning figures are crafted from 1,550 and 1,450 sheets of gold leaf, respectively, and stand about 1.9 meters and 1.7 meters tall. The batter statue reaches an impressive height of approximately 2.4 meters when accounting for the bat’s tip. These remarkable creations reflect SGC's two-year commitment and artistry, endorsed by none other than the athlete himself.
Pricing for each statue is determined based on Ohtani's legendary achievements, including his remarkable
50-50 milestone in 2024, where he hit 50 home runs and stole over 50 bases in a single season. The estimated price for the batter is
55 million JPY (including tax), and the pitcher also retails for the same price, bringing the total for both to
110 million JPY (including tax).
Exclusive Gold Collectibles
Alongside the statues, a special collection dubbed
“Shohei Ohtani Pure Gold Collection” will also be unveiled. The collection includes a medal made of solid gold, weighing 100 grams and measuring approximately 5.4 cm in diameter. Two variants—batter and pitcher—will be available with a suggested retail price of
9,614,000 JPY each.
Additionally, collectors can purchase gold figurines showcasing Ohtani in varying poses:
“K24 Batter Shohei Ohtani,” “K24 Pitcher Shohei Ohtani,” and
“K24 Two-Way Shohei Ohtani.” Each figure comes in 1/10 and 1/20 scales, with prices starting at
23,430,000 JPY for the larger variants and
6,820,000 JPY for the smaller ones. The two-way statue commands a premium at
47,080,000 JPY for 1/10 scale and
13,860,000 JPY for 1/20 scale.
A Grand Showcase of Gold Products
As retail gold prices remain on the rise, the Golden Exhibition aims to captivate attendees with over
1,000 exquisite gold items. These will range from the splendid
“Golden Buddhist Bell” crafted by a living national treasure to various traditional and modern goldware, decorative items, and collectibles. Visitors can enjoy the visual splendor and also take advantage of on-site cash appraisals for unused gold and silver items, free of charge, via X-ray analysis.
