Celebrating Seafarers: A National Day to Honor Their Dedication

June 25th: A Day to Honor Seafarers

June 25 marks the Day of the Seafarer, an important global observance established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This year, AIS (A.I.S Co., Ltd.), headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, is spearheading a special initiative to express gratitude and respect towards seafarers who underpin Japan's maritime activities.

In line with its mission to honor these dedicated maritime workers, AIS has launched a nationwide project to promote awareness about the significance of seafarers in our daily lives and industries. The project, aptly themed “Visible Gratitude for Invisible Jobs,” has successfully gathered over 100 heartfelt messages of appreciation from various corporations, organizations, and members of the public.

These messages have been compiled into a video that was released on YouTube's “Torarukuru Channel.” This compilation serves as a tribute to the vital role that seafarers play, and the video aims to spread their stories and contributions far and wide. Viewers can access the video to witness the genuine gratitude expressed from across the nation: Watch Here.

Additionally, in significant locations across Tokyo, such as Haneda Airport and ten key subway stations, posters of the Day of the Seafarer have been displayed. These visuals reinforce the campaign's message, though it's noted that the poster placements were not directly managed by AIS. A Unique Floating Event in Osaka

On the actual Day of the Seafarer, June 25th, a unique event titled “Seafarers Day Boat” is set to operate in Dotonbori, Osaka. This event aims to further communicate messages of thanks and respect, featuring an original song produced by AIS, which will be played on board. Participants in the vibrant Dotonbori area are encouraged to join in this special moment of appreciation for seafarers.

The event is expected to run from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, showcasing gratitude messages on a floating LED screen as the boat cruises through the iconic Dotonbori river. Attendees can expect a memorable visual display aimed at acknowledging the often-overlooked contributions of maritime workers in Japan.

It is important to note that any changes to the timing or content may occur due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances. For observers, this is a remarkable opportunity to engage with the community's appreciation for those who toil at sea.

Background on the Day of the Seafarer

Established during the Manila International Conference in 2010 by the IMO, the Day of the Seafarer seeks to recognize the invaluable contributions of maritime workers who support global shipping and trade. The designated date of June 25 serves as a reminder of the essential role that these professionals play in maintaining the flow of commerce and ensuring the safety of maritime transport.

Through initiatives like AIS's program, the hope is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the maritime industry and its working individuals among the public, as well as to strengthen community ties within the industry itself.

As AIS continues its project promoting June 25th as Seafarers Day in Japan, they invite everyone to participate and contribute to this noble cause. Such efforts not only honor the past and present of maritime work but also lay a foundation for recognizing the pivotal role of seafarers in the future of global trade and navigation.
