China Tourism Group Highlights Sustainable Tourism at Media Tour 'Travelogue of China'
China Tourism Group's Commitment to Sustainable Tourism
In late November 2024, China Tourism Group made significant strides in promoting sustainable tourism during the international media communication event known as the "Travelogue of China." This initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Chinese Association of Public Diplomacy and Global Times Online, and took the form of an immersive tour that spotlighted the Group’s various sustainable tourism initiatives.
A Journey Through Sustainable Practices
The media delegation embarked on a journey starting from the CTG • Anji Hele Valley in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province. This valley is a remarkable case study developed by CTG International and epitomizes sustainable development, adhering strictly to the philosophy that "clear waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets."
Li Jian, General Manager of Hong Kong CTS (Anji) Tourism Development Co., Ltd, elaborated on the valley's development. He stated, "The development of Hele Valley follows the principle of minimal intervention. All architectural designs prioritize environmentally friendly technologies that reduce ecological impact. Road and trail designs consider the terrain, avoiding damage to tea plantations, bamboo forests, and water sources, thereby allowing visitors to engage with nature without disruption."
Ecological Integration at Qiandao Lake
During their expedition, journalists were also taken to Qiandao Lake in Hangzhou, where they observed the intersection of ecological protection and tourism development. Wei Hong, the Deputy General Manager of CTG (Zhejiang) Qiandao Lake Company, mentioned that the Qiandao Lake scenic area attracts around two million tourists annually, significantly enhancing the local economy and employment opportunities. He noted, "Three to five generations of local residents have been involved in the construction and operation of the national resort area of Qiandao Lake."
One journalist from Kyrgyzstan, Aiperi Temirova of NEWS.KG, expressed her admiration for the community's commitment to preserving the lake and its positive impact on local residents. "The way the community cares about its preservation and its effects on local life is truly impressive," she remarked.
Witnessing the Achievements of Ecological Civilization
Throughout the tour, the journalists witnessed Zhejiang's achievements in ecological civilization and green transformation. They noted the significant efforts being made to promote high-quality economic development in harmony with nature. The delegation utilized various information platforms and social media to share their experiences, presenting a well-rounded image of China to the world.
One journalist, Ecaterina Reveaco, editor-in-chief of the Moldovan website Noi.md, indicated her strong desire to return to China with family and friends to explore the stunning locations the tour highlighted.
A Broader Perspective on Sustainable Efforts
The primary goal of the media tour was to elevate global awareness regarding China’s dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable development. By showcasing their sustainable tourism initiatives, China Tourism Group aims to illustrate how tourism can coexist harmoniously with nature and community needs. This journey emphasized a model of development that not only attracts visitors but also benefits local communities and fosters an appreciation for ecological integrity. As these efforts continue to evolve, the expectation is that more regions in China will follow suit, leading to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible tourism industry.
