PACU Foundation's Flying Colors Charity Fun Run: A Vibrant Success

On June 24, 2025, a sea of bright colors filled the grounds of Forsyth Country Day School in Lewisville, North Carolina. The PACU Foundation's Flying Colors Charity Fun Run and first-ever timed 5K event took place, bringing together enthusiastic runners and generous supporters for a day of fun and philanthropy. This year's event marked a significant achievement, as it not only celebrated community spirit but also set a new fundraising record.

With 162 participants, the charity run saw an impressive turnout, including 68 runners who took on the challenge of the 5K. Among them, 19-year-old Alexandra Williams from Oak Ridge sprinted her way to victory, crossing the finish line with a time of 2203.74 seconds. The timing for this inaugural 5K was coordinated by Twin City Track Club, showcasing the event’s commitment to both fitness and community engagement.

The highlight of the day wasn’t just the race itself; it was the overwhelming support and generosity shown by the participants. The event raised a groundbreaking $18,789, a remarkable increase of $7,789 compared to the previous year, which represents a staggering 71% growth in funds raised. This achievement doesn't just reflect the participants' commitment but also signals a growing awareness and community support for the cause.

Megan Brooks, the PACU Foundation's fundraising chair and event organizer, expressed her excitement about the event's success. She stated, “This event is all about connection. Neighbors, families, and coworkers came together for a morning filled with fitness and fun, united in the purpose of helping those in need. The community spirit demonstrated today is what makes it so special.”

The Flying Colors Charity Fun Run uniquely blends the joy of running with the imperative need to support local families facing financial difficulties. The funds raised during the event are primarily directed towards enhancing the capacity of regional charities that provide vital services, including emergency assistance and financial education.

Jean Golden-Rumer, the President of the PACU Foundation, reflected on the commitment and effort put forth by Megan and her team. “Their creativity, dedication, and heartfelt passion for service embody everything the Foundation stands for,” she said. “They ensure that every dollar raised can genuinely make a difference in the lives of those we serve.”

The PACU Foundation, founded in 2020, operates on a volunteer-driven model, relying on the commitment of its personnel from the Piedmont Advantage Credit Union. This year, it has exceeded an impressive milestone with over 85% of its employees contributing to the Foundation’s efforts. Since its inception, the Foundation has collectively raised and donated over $100,000 to local charities, impacting countless lives across the Piedmont Triad and Charlotte communities.

In addition to individual contributions, the PACU Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to the generous sponsors that have supported this year's event. Their contributions have significantly enhanced the event's success and increased the Foundation's ability to extend its reach and services to the community.

In conclusion, the PACU Foundation's Flying Colors Charity Fun Run not only provided a platform for physical engagement but also fostered a lasting impact on local communities struggling with financial hardships. As the event continues to grow year after year, it exemplifies the strength of community and the spirit of giving. Whether through participation, sponsorship, or simple advocacy, the Flying Colors Charity Fun Run represents a vibrant fusion of fitness and philanthropy, making strides towards a brighter future for many families in need.
