ACM Recognizes 71 New Fellows for Outstanding Achievements in Computing

Celebrating Excellence in Computing



The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has made a significant announcement, recognizing 71 new Fellows who have displayed exceptional accomplishments in computing. This prestigious title is awarded to individuals who represent the very best in the field, selected from over 100,000 members globally. Each Fellow has made remarkable contributions either through groundbreaking technical innovations or impactful service, affirming their commitment to the computing community.

ACM’s Recognition Program



Since its inception in 1993, the ACM Fellows program aims to honor those who have made extraordinary contributions to computing. As stated by AC President Yannis Ioannidis, this year's honorees represent the top 1% of professionals within the ACM. The introduction of these new Fellows provides a glimpse into the ongoing advancements in computing, highlighting work done in both traditional areas like computer architecture and software engineering, and in emerging fields such as swarm intelligence and scene recognition.

Each Fellow, hailing from 14 different countries, works in top universities, corporations, and research institutions around the world, including notable contributions in countries like Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK, and the US. Their work covers a breadth of computing research areas, from artificial intelligence and data management to networked systems and sustainability.

Notable Achievements of the 2025 ACM Fellows



Among the distinguished individuals recognized this year is Eytan Adar from the University of Michigan, noted for his research in data mining and social computing. Gail-Joon Ahn from Arizona State University was acknowledged for his foundational work in information security, while Eric Allman contributed immensely to the development of electronic mail systems.

The research contributions celebrated span a wide range of areas. For instance, George Candea from EPFL contributed to dependable systems, while Lujo Bauer of Carnegie Mellon University made strides in access control and security for machine learning applications. Furthermore, contributions from Angela Bonifati towards graph databases at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 reflect advancements in data integration specifically designed for modern needs.
