Unleashing Creativity: The Creative Robotics Contest 2025
The
Creative Robotics Contest 2025 is set to hold an exciting event, co-hosted by
Human Academy Junior and the
RISE (Research Institute of STREAM Education for Creating the Future). Scheduled for November 23, 2025, this nationwide competition is designed to inspire children through the engaging field of robotics. Supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, this event is focused on enhancing children's creative abilities, technical knowledge, and human skills, while emphasizing problem-solving and presentation skills.
Festival of Innovation
This year, the contest adopts the slogan
“Robotics is the Best!”, creating a platform for young innovators to present their ideas and engage with peers. With a total prize pool exceeding
one million yen, including a
MVP award of
100,000 yen, this initiative not only motivates participants but also introduces a new award system to recognize their classrooms.
The head of the judging panel will be
Takayuki Furuta, a renowned engineer and director of the Future Robot Technology Research Center at Chiba Institute of Technology. His expertise will guide the evaluation of submissions across different categories.
Education at the Forefront
In a rapidly evolving educational landscape, this contest aligns perfectly with the ongoing shifts in university admissions. The focus has moved from rote memorization to assessing traits like
subjectivity, diversity, cooperation, and
thinking and expression skills. Participation in events like this not only proves beneficial but crucial for students, highlighting their innovative and problem-solving capabilities.
In line with national goals, the contest aims to nurture the next generation of specialists in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), particularly addressing the anticipated shortage of over
3.26 million individuals in AI and robotics by 2040, as projected by the
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. An early foundation in these areas is pivotal for future careers in tech and engineering.
A Creative and Engaging Space
The competition is structured to encourage children to ask questions and creatively develop their own solutions through robot design. It emphasizes the importance of fostering scientific interest, resilience in problem-solving, and effective communication skills, which are essential for the evolving demands of future education.
Theme and Categories
The contest features several categories, encouraging participants to express their creativity:
- - Theme Performance Category: This requires teams to create and present devices based on the theme “Robots in Society”, emphasizing innovation and creativity.
- - Time Attack Race Category: This is exclusive to students of the Human Academy Junior Robotics Professor Course and certified candidates by RISE. Participants will race their self-built robots with the time being judged via video submissions.
Eligible participants are primarily students under 18, excluding those belonging to corporate entities.
Broad Recognition and Support
The
Ministry of Education’s support for this competition reflects the increasing importance of creative thought and problem-solving abilities in the educational curriculum, amplified by the digital society’s demands. The contest is an opportunity for younger students, from elementary through high school, to embrace STREAM education, empowering them to confront
“questions without answers” and derive joy from their inquisition pursuits.
Future Aspirations
The adoption of STREAM education is not just about building robots; it’s about fostering a broader educational value that extends to
innovation in talent development. After the competition, Human Academy will continue its efforts to reinforce collaboration in educational resources, aiming to combat societal issues such as workforce shortages and aging demographics that Japan faces.
Engaging With Robotics
With programs designed for students from ages 5 to 18,
Human Academy's Robotics Class provides diverse courses that teach children how to build functional robots through coding and engineering concepts. Under the guidance of robotics creator
Tomotaka Takahashi, this initiative has expanded to over
2,000 classrooms across Japan, with more than
27,000 students enrolled.
Robotics class curriculum includes various skill levels, from initial courses focusing on basic principles of design to more advanced classes incorporating programming and sensor integration, preparing students for real-world challenges. Participants not only learn to create but are also endowed with skills vital for the complex and technology-driven future.
