51Talk Empowers Young Voices at the United Nations Climate Stage
In an inspiring showcase of youth leadership and environmental advocacy, 51Talk, a global online English education platform, has once again stepped into the limelight by empowering young voices at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP30, held in Belém, Brazil, from November 15 to 21, 2025. This initiative brings together students from various countries to share their perspectives on climate change, thereby bridging local experiences with global discussions.
Cultivating Global Voices
Launched in 2023, the
GreenTalk Speak for Future initiative has created a remarkable platform for children from diverse regions, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey, Thailand, and Vietnam. This unique program allows them to express their thoughts on environmental protection on an international stage, elevating their voices to a level that can be heard far beyond their local communities.
During COP30, participants immersed themselves in the lush biodiversity of Brazil, engaging in rainforest explorations and local cultural activities. Such experiences afforded them a firsthand understanding of sustainability, helping to connect classroom learning with the pressing environmental issues facing the world today.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Children involved in the program were not just learning to speak English; they were learning to communicate about crucial global matters effectively. Through long-term one-on-one instruction, interactive speaking practice, and a carefully designed curriculum, the learners transitioned from basic conversations to structured storytelling and public speaking. Jack Huang, CEO of 51Talk, emphasizes the significance of this educational approach by stating: "Every child deserves the opportunity to speak to the world."
The program’s approach to education is not only about language acquisition but also about fostering an understanding of global citizenship. Participants recognized their capacity to engage meaningfully with international issues, thus amplifying their voices in climate discourse.
Standout Voices at COP30
Among the many young participants, several stood out for their compelling speeches that tackled various aspects of environmental issues. From Saudi Arabia,
Sheddi Alharthi and
Abdulmohsen Alsherih made impactful statements highlighting the need to protect the endangered Arabian oryx and safeguard coral reefs in the Red Sea.
Le Bao Nhi from Vietnam overcame challenges with pronunciation and confidence to win the GreenTalk contest, passionately discussing how plastic pollution on her local beach led to increased community clean-up efforts. From the UAE,
Khaseeba Omar Al Rumaithi proposed innovative floating solar islands created from recycled materials, while
Osman Batu from Turkey shared personal observations of environmental challenges such as wildfires and biodiversity loss. Lastly,
Wasuthida Ringkleun from Thailand used the powerful imagery of a sea turtle entangled in a ghost net to shed light on marine plastic pollution—an illustration of today's youth's growing environmental awareness and responsibility.
These speeches demonstrated not only language proficiency but also an evolution in confidence, empathy, and the ability to link local issues with global challenges, showcasing the transformative potential of education.
A Vision for the Future
By providing a platform for young voices, 51Talk seeks to transform online English education into a catalyst for global participation. The program aims to nurture students who are not just proficient in English but also equipped with the perspectives needed to contribute to international dialogues on pressing global issues. The initiative reflects a holistic educational philosophy where language skills go hand-in-hand with the ability to engage with complex problems facing the planet.
