Conrad Nowak Celebrates Receiving the Prestigious Volunteer of the Year Award

Conrad Nowak Honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award

On November 14, 2025, Conrad Nowak, a partner at Corboy & Demetrio, was honored with the esteemed Chicago Sister Cities International (CSCI) Volunteer of the Year Award during the World Business Chicago’s annual Chicago International Gala. The award was presented by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson in front of an audience exceeding 800 diverse attendees, including business and civic leaders and Consuls General from over 75 countries.

In acceptance of the award, Nowak took the stage after Mayor Johnson and expressed heartfelt gratitude towards his family, the staff at World Business Chicago, and his fellow committee members for their continued support. His speech touched on a personal narrative from his childhood that resonated deeply with the audience. He recounted a significant lesson imparted by his Polish grandmother, who uniquely navigated a cultural bridge with young neighborhood boys by serving them pierogies, teaching them to find commonality despite differences.

This memory highlights the essence of community and connection, captured in his grandmother’s wisdom: “Number one, you don’t mess with a Polish grandmother… and number two, sometimes you just have to find that way.” His story reminded those present that amidst seeming divisions, sometimes simple gestures can unite us.

As the Chair of the Warsaw Committee of CSCI and a member of its Advisory Board, Conrad Nowak has been a part of the organization’s initiatives for over 15 years, dedicating eight years as its Chair. The Volunteer of the Year Award symbolizes recognition for individuals who significantly contribute to CSCI’s mission of promoting Chicago as a global city, fostering peace through mutual respect and understanding, and carrying out citizen diplomacy.

Conrad urged the audience to seek shared humanity, particularly in diverse and contrasting environments, stating, “Try to find that common ground. It is always there.” This sentiment embodies the mission of CSCI and highlights the importance of connection in an increasingly divided world.
