Nordic Semiconductor Launches Entry-level Bluetooth LE SoCs for Diverse Applications
Nordic Semiconductor Expands Bluetooth LE Offerings
Nordic Semiconductor has recently introduced two new entry-level Bluetooth® Low Energy (LE) Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) aimed at developers looking for efficient and cost-effective solutions. The nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B are part of the nRF54L Series, designed to address a wide range of applications, including those that require budget-sensitive Bluetooth technology.
Key Features of the nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B
The nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B provide robust Bluetooth LE connectivity while consuming minimal power. These SoCs retain the core functionality of the nRF54L Series, which is pivotal for creating user-friendly, cost-effective Bluetooth LE end-products. Whether functioning as the main SoC in a single-chip setup or as companion devices in a multi-chip configuration, they leverage Nordic's esteemed Bluetooth LE technology to ensure reliability and performance.
“By designing the nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B, we aim to provide developers with accessible, reliable starting points for their projects,” stated Øyvind Strøm, EVP of Short-Range at Nordic Semiconductor. “These SoCs encapsulate the essential qualities of our standard Bluetooth LE offerings while ensuring ease of implementation, making them particularly attractive for developers focusing on lean, economically sensitive applications.”
Utilizing Nordic’s Comprehensive Ecosystem
What sets these new entry-level SoCs apart is the seamless integration into Nordic's expansive Bluetooth ecosystem. Both devices are equipped with the same high-quality, fully certified Bluetooth LE stack found across the nRF54L Series. This has significant advantages such as enhanced interoperability, thanks to Nordic's longstanding contributions to Bluetooth standards, which have made it a trusted choice for developers globally.
Furthermore, Nordic provides an extensive development ecosystem, enriching the user experience with powerful software and tools including the nRF Connect SDK, detailed documentation, and interactive online training. This suite of resources accelerates the development process while reducing time-to-market for new products. Nordic also offers secure and scalable firmware updates and device management through nRF Cloud services, facilitating smooth transitions from chips to the cloud.
Technical Specifications
The entry-level nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B are built on a solid foundation that combines a 128 MHz Arm® Cortex® M33 processor with low-leakage RAM, promoting effective processing for compact wireless designs. They also feature Nordic's advanced fourth-generation Bluetooth LE radio, which is pivotal for high-quality connectivity.
The two SoCs provide different RAM specifications to cater to various application needs: while both have 0.5 MB of Non-Volatile Memory (NVM), the nRF54LS05B has an increased RAM capacity of 96 KB compared to the nRF54LS05A’s 64 KB. This differentiation allows developers optimizing their applications for performance as needed.
Future-Proofing the nRF54L Series
Apart from Bluetooth LE, the nRF54L Series supports several wireless protocols, including Matter, Thread, Zigbee, and more, ensuring versatility in product development. With scalable memory options, enhanced analog and digital interfaces, and robust security mechanisms, the series is designed to support a diverse array of products on a unified chip, harmonizing performance with simplicity.
Market Availability
The nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B SoCs are now available for developers to evaluate, with mass production expected to begin in Q3 of 2026. Developers interested in accessing these innovative solutions can join the early access program for development kits and samples by contacting the Nordic Sales team directly.
Upcoming Event
To explore more about these new SoCs and other offerings, attendees can visit Nordic Semiconductor's booth at Embedded World 2026 in Nuremberg, Hall 4A, Booth 310 from March 10 to 12.
With competitive pricing and powerful features, the nRF54LS05A and nRF54LS05B seek to redefine the possibilities of Bluetooth technology in cost-sensitive markets, helping developers bring their innovative ideas to life.
