A New Culinary and Retail Experience in Daikanyama
Get ready to dive into the innovative world of Oil, the latest concept brought to life by
株式会社ance, led by Creative Director
Moeko Tamakawa. This exciting new venue will open its doors on
April 22, 2025, in the heart of
Daikanyama, Tokyo. Oil is not just a place; it’s an immersive experience that brings together a boutique and restaurant, celebrating culinary diversity and lifestyle in one cohesive space.
A Venue Beyond Borders
At Oil, the blending of various cultural elements is at its core. The mission: to explore how the intersection of diverse cultures can spark creativity and enrich our experiences. The collaboration between innovative minds such as Moeko and Chef
Ariel Millaman—who hails from
Santiago, Chile and has experience at notable restaurants on the
Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list—ensures that each item on the menu, whether food or retail, evokes an interesting narrative.
Creative Boutique Shopping
The boutique operates daily from
8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, while extending hours in April to accommodate evening dining guests. Here, visitors can find a curated selection of timeless items that elevate everyday life. Each week, fresh flowers are displayed, alongside handmade incense and candles crafted by artisans from India and Malaysia. Vintage ware from Italy and France, as well as original products like granola and milk caramel sauces, add unique flavors to the shopping experience.
The boutique also provides services for flower arrangements and event decoration, with options including custom bouquets for occasions such as Mother’s Day.
Culinary Delights Await
Head Chef
Ariel Millaman, who began his career as a pastry chef, brings a wealth of experience to Oil. His time at
Villanos en Bermudas in Bogotá—ranked in
Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants—informs his crafted dishes. With a focus on seasonal ingredients and unique flavor combinations, each menu item delivers a gastronomic journey. The breakfast menu includes items like brioche sandwiches stuffed with fresh vegetables and mascarpone, while lunch offers a selection of seafood and meat paired with artisanal bread and seasonal salads.
Dining hours will evolve from
8:00 AM to 11:00 AM for breakfast and
11:00 AM to 3:00 PM for lunch starting in May. The cafe and bar will be open daily, serving a variety of beverages and light bites in a lively atmosphere.
Exclusive Collaborations and Events
Oil aims to create a dynamic event space, including exclusive dining collaborations under the banner
“Savor the Blend: Culinary & Culture Collide.” Starting from June 29, special events featuring guest chefs and bartenders will showcase innovative pairings of food and cocktails in unique formats.
Every third Monday of the month, Oil will transform into a music project space titled
“closed dreams,” where guests can enjoy a curated musical experience that complements the culinary offerings.
The Faces Behind Oil
At the helm of this exciting venture is Moeko Tamakawa, who has transitioned from her artistic roots in photography and branding to create a multi-dimensional experience at Oil. Working alongside her is
Matteo Scalvini, the Vintage Buying Director, whose keen aesthetic sense ensures a selection of multi-era items that resonate with diverse customers. Finally,
Miyuki Tamakawa takes charge of floral coordination, bridging aesthetics with the essence of hospitality at Oil.
