Boviet Solar Powers Award-Winning Escalante Project in New Mexico

Boviet Solar Technology Co. Ltd., a prominent player in the solar energy sector known for its advanced monocrystalline PV cells and modules, has proudly contributed to the Escalante Solar project. This impressive initiative, situated near Grants, New Mexico, has recently been awarded the title of Solar Builder Magazine's 2024 Project of the Year for installations exceeding 10 MW. The Escalante Solar project is built on the site of the former Escalante Generating Station, a coal-fired power facility that ceased operations in 2020. Transitioning from coal to solar, the project began generating carbon-free electricity on June 1, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable energy solutions.

Initiated in 2020 as part of Tri-State's clean energy transition, the solar project has an impressive capacity to supply power to around 63,000 homes, benefitting the electricity cooperative members in the region. The project was made possible through a power purchase agreement with Origis Energy, securing funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s nearly $2.5 billion New ERA Program.

A remarkable 500,000 units of Boviet Solar's Vega Series™ Mono-Bifacial Solar Modules were employed in the construction of the Escalante Solar facility. This vast deployment of high-quality modules underscores the company’s commitment to providing reliable and efficient solar solutions.

Gridworks, an Albuquerque-based construction firm, played a vital role in implementing the project, employing about 400 workers during the construction phase. Following construction, Origis Energy Services took over maintenance operations, creating four to six permanent onsite positions.
