The goal is to enable individuals to securely manage and present their personal information, qualifications, and attributes in a digital format. This collaboration combines Hitachi's Public Biometric Infrastructure (PBI) with Panasonic Connect's world-class facial recognition technology, alongside a new wallet application currently in development. This initiative targets the realization of a "self-sovereign identity," marking a new era in digital verification services.
Addressing the Challenges of Digital Transactions

However, traditional methods of identity verification, which depend on passwords and IDs, have fostered numerous issues. Typically, users manage their keys using their smartphones, risking loss or theft. However, Hitachi's PBI generates keys from the user’s biometric data for each transaction, discarding them immediately afterward. This innovative approach minimizes the risk of key leakage or misuse.
2. Industry-Specific Digital ID Applications
The digital ID being developed through this collaboration is designed to be versatile, applicable across multiple sectors, including public services and financial services. In the public sector, for example, individuals can use facial recognition to instantly present necessary documents, streamlining processes that formerly relied on printed paperwork. By integrating this technology with Panasonic Connect's products, which can read My Number Cards, even those without smartphones can access services securely.
