FAMSUN Takes Swift Action for Earthquake Recovery and Food Security in Myanmar

Swift Action from FAMSUN in Myanmar

On March 28, 2025, a catastrophic earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck the Mandalay region of Myanmar, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. In the depths of this crisis, FAMSUN, a leading player in agri-tech, demonstrated its commitment to emergency response and food security by initiating urgent recovery operations to restore animal feed production in the affected areas. The quake severely disrupted agricultural infrastructures, paralyzing several major feed mills and jeopardizing the country's food supply chain.

Immediate Response and Mobilization

Upon receiving reports of the earthquake's impact, FAMSUN activated its emergency protocols within hours, efficiently coordinating through its Southeast Asia regional hub. A Joint Support Team, comprised of eight technical experts, was swiftly assembled, drawing from FAMSUN's international talent pool.

Despite the challenges posed by temporary visa restrictions and damaged transportation routes, the FAMSUN team made a rapid journey to Yangon. They organized essential relief supplies before embarking on a grueling twelve-hour drive through aftershock-ridden territories to reach the Mandalay region. By April 5, they arrived at the sites, eager to commence recovery efforts.

Restoration of Feed Production

The team's first action involved conducting detailed safety inspections and technical assessments at the damaged feed mills. Working tirelessly amid ongoing aftershocks and oppressive environmental conditions, the experts uncovered serious structural risks and equipment failures caused by the earthquake.

Remarkably, within just 48 hours of their arrival, FAMSUN successfully restored stable production at four key feed mills. At one location, engineers employed pre-fabricated modular components to address a critical conveying system failure, thereby significantly reducing repair time and resuming production faster than conventional methods would allow. This rapid restoration was crucial for re-establishing the supply of animal feed, vital for thousands of local farms reliant on consistent livestock production.

Aid Beyond Recovery Efforts

In addition to their technical expertise, FAMSUN also took steps to support the communities affected by the earthquake. The company provided much-needed humanitarian assistance, distributing supplies including medicine, food, and clean drinking water, which amounted to over 40 million Myanmar Kyat (around $19,200 USD). Collaborating with local organizations such as the CECCM, MSCC, and the Myanmar Livestock Federation, this aid reached numerous families affected by the disaster, illustrating FAMSUN's commitment to not only industrial recovery but also to social responsibility.

Dr. Nay Thuyein, Chairman of the Myanmar Livestock Federation, expressed gratitude for FAMSUN's comprehensive support, emphasizing the sense of hope and restore faith it provided. The mission also highlighted the effective coordination across FAMSUN’s regional divisions and showcased the critical role that private sector expertise can play in disaster response.

Looking Ahead: A Continued Commitment

With recovery efforts in Mandalay now winding down, FAMSUN is committed to maintaining its support for the region by offering technical assistance and conducting inspections at over ten additional project sites impacted by the earthquake, including areas like Taunggyi. This focused approach underlines FAMSUN's long-term dedication to ensuring food security and promoting sustainable growth across Southeast Asia.

As Jason Fan, Vice President of FAMSUN, stated, "This rapid response reflects our commitment to the communities we serve. We aim to leverage our global expertise in strengthening local industries and advancing agricultural sustainability in the region."
