Benesse's Collaborative Art Exhibition: Celebrating Connections Through Art
The 'Benesse Style Care's Collaborative Art Exhibition' is set to take place at Takatsu Civic Hall in Kawasaki from March 13 to March 18, 2026. This innovative event will feature artwork created collaboratively by residents of Benesse's elderly care homes and children from nearby daycare centers and children's clubs. The exhibition aims to provide a vibrant platform for intergenerational connection through art.
This year's exhibition marks the fourth installment of an initiative that began in 2023 at the Art Forum Azamino in Yokohama. In the previous editions, the exhibition witnessed participation from numerous artists, resulting in increasing visitor numbers, especially with the engagement of children who created colorful artworks alongside the elderly residents. This year, for the first time, the exhibition will be held in spring, emphasizing a sense of renewal and growth. The event is expected to attract even more visitors, as it opens its doors to the broader Kawasaki metropolitan area.
Exhibition Highlights
1.
Collaborative Artwork: Exhibits will include various joint creations developed by residents across 30 different care homes in Kawasaki, Yokohama, and Machida. These artworks feature diverse techniques, such as collages using traditional Japanese ukiyo-e themes, colorful masking tape art, and a special display representing local landmarks in a map format. Furthermore, visitors can look forward to pieces created in partnership with children from the daycare centers and clubs.
2.
Interactive Art Projects: The exhibition will also include a participatory art segment where guests can create their own pieces using colorful chenille stems. This engaging activity is aimed at individuals of all ages and allows attendees to express their creativity freely while taking home their artistic creations.
3.
Dialogue-Based Appreciation: An innovative dialogue-based appreciation program, developed in collaboration with Benesse Art Site Naoshima, encourages attendees to engage deeply with the artwork. This method promotes discussion and reflection, allowing participants to understand themselves better and empathize with others. Scheduled sessions will be held throughout the exhibition period, facilitating meaningful connections among attendees.

The Mission Behind the Exhibition
The 'Benesse Style Care's Collaborative Art Exhibition' was born out of a desire to empower elderly residents by enabling them to express their emotions through art and experience the joy of creating together. By showcasing their life stories and individual histories, the event aims to enhance the participants' quality of life (QOL) and encourage further positive interaction among different generations.
This initiative also emphasizes the importance of continuous engagement with the community, as the evolving project garners participation from the local daycare centers. Through creative endeavors, the exhibition fosters a nurturing environment where both children and seniors can collaborate and learn from one another.
As we look forward to this spring's exhibition, we invite everyone to join us in celebrating the beauty of art that brings generations together at the heart of Kawasaki. Benesse Style Care remains committed to enhancing the lives of each resident while contributing positively to society, enriching intergenerational relationships, and ensuring every individual can express their uniqueness through creativity.
