Brunswick Group Unveils Multi-Stakeholder Engagement Survey for 2024

Brunswick Group Releases Insights on Stakeholder Engagement

Brunswick Group, a strategic consulting firm that supports the planning and execution of stakeholder engagement strategies at critical junctions, has unveiled its 2024 Multi-Stakeholder Engagement Survey. With a focus on the increasing complexity in corporate environments, this report comprises interviews and internet surveys targeting over 517 senior managers from Japanese companies with annual revenues exceeding 10 billion yen. It aims to provide a comprehensive framework for building trust and collaboration amidst diverse stakeholder landscapes.

Key Takeaways from the Report

The research findings reiterate that the relationship between companies and their stakeholders is intricate and dynamic, best understood as a 'dynamic network' where interdependent entities influence each other. Interestingly, more than 60% of the surveyed organizations recognize and practice the concept of multi-stakeholder engagement. However, the report points out a crucial need for a deeper understanding and implementation of what this concept fundamentally entails.

As stakeholder diversity continues to expand, companies find that navigating crises and pursuing discontinuous growth necessitates engaging a broader spectrum of stakeholders. This revelation highlights deficiencies in conventional stakeholder response approaches, which may not suffice in today’s fast-evolving corporate atmosphere.

Organizational Readiness and Decision-Making

The survey indicates that organizations are becoming acutely aware of their capability gaps. In scenarios where agile and comprehensive decision-making is critical, leaders must transcend organizational boundaries to quickly assimilate diverse perspectives and values. This ability to make informed judgments from a holistic company viewpoint is becoming increasingly essential.

In response to these challenges, Brunswick Group has proposed a seven-step strategic design framework. This framework sheds light on the essential skill sets and collaborative structures needed for effective cross-organizational engagement.

According to Akiko Karaki, Managing Partner at the Tokyo office of Brunswick Group, “The social environment surrounding companies is transforming into a more complex and dynamic landscape, intensifying the challenge of delivering value and profitability. Multi-stakeholder engagement represents a proactive approach for Japanese corporations to convey their significant values to stakeholders and achieve true value creation through collaborative efforts. We aim to continuously strengthen our support for strategic engagement during critical moments for Japanese enterprises.”
