New Program from Ivory Innovations Fuels Affordable Housing Solutions by Innovators

Ivory Innovations Launches Fieldworks Program

Ivory Innovations, a nonprofit academic center affiliated with the University of Utah's David Eccles School of Business, has announced the launch of its new program, Fieldworks. This initiative aims to support innovators in the affordable housing sector by providing them with the opportunity to implement their solutions directly in real-world development sites in Utah.

A Unique Opportunity for Innovators

Fieldworks is specifically designed for builders, technology companies, and startups that focus on housing solutions, especially those ready to take their innovations to the next level. The program targets innovators who have already moved past the ideation and pilot stages of development and are now looking to make a tangible impact by gaining market traction in real environments.

Abby Ivory, President of Ivory Innovations, emphasized the necessity of such a program, stating, "Many promising housing innovations encounter significant challenges in gaining early adoption. The Fieldworks program is tailored to help these innovators overcome barriers and operate in a scale where they can showcase their solutions effectively."

Collaborating with Ivory Homes

A crucial aspect of the Fieldworks program is its collaboration with Ivory Homes, Utah's largest homebuilder. With more than 1,500 housing units in various stages of development, participants in the Fieldworks program will have a unique chance to test and demonstrate their innovations amidst diverse real-world projects. This collaboration enhances the practical application of innovations and allows for deeper insights into housing market dynamics.

Eligibility Criteria

Innovators interested in the Fieldworks program should ideally have housing-related products or systems that are ready for commercial deployment within projects suitable for unit ranges of six to 100.

  • - Experience Needed: Applicants should have moved beyond initial conceptual stages and should be actively seeking customers for their solutions.
  • - Alignment with Goals: Prospective participants must align their innovations with the focus of Ivory Innovations on affordable new-construction housing options.
  • - Desire for Partnership: A willingness to partner with a mission-driven nonprofit entity is essential.
  • - Location Requirement: Selected innovators will be expected to implement their projects in the Salt Lake City metro area, home to Ivory's current housing developments.

The program strongly encourages applicants who have been nominated for the Ivory Prize in the past, especially those who reached finalist or winner status. However, previous participation is not a pre-requisite for application.

Advantages of Participating in Fieldworks

Joining the Fieldworks program provides numerous benefits to innovators, including:
  • - Real-World Application: Participants will have the chance to apply their innovations in real-world conditions.
  • - Networking Opportunities: Access to a vast network of builders, funders, and media partners across the nation that can help elevate their visibility.
  • - Insight Development: Creation of a co-developed case study that can assist in scaling their solutions.
  • - Future Provisions: A unique chance to become a go-to solution for future Ivory Innovations projects, enhancing business opportunities.
