A New Era of Regional Development through Collaboration

On July 9, 2026, Okayama University, located in Okayama City, held its annual board meeting and general assembly at the 50th Anniversary Hall on its Tsushima campus. The event, organized by the Okayama University Research Cooperation Association, aimed to foster collaboration between industry and academia, attracting numerous representatives from member companies and university stakeholders.

The highlight of the event was a keynote speech by Keisuke Hosome, an associate professor from the Faculty of Engineering at Miyazaki University, who passionately discussed the topic "Regional Development Initiated by Universities – Focusing on Green Transformation (GX)." He shared practical examples from Miyazaki University, emphasizing how local communities and students can collaboratively lead initiatives for green transformation. Following this, Ryoutaro Horiuchi, CEO of Aqzoo, a student venture from the university, presented on the theme of enhancing well-being through nature-positive initiatives. He provided insights into activities aimed at promoting coexistence with nature from a youthful perspective. Additionally, reports from four companies involved in the university's Industry-Academia Collaboration Promotion Challenge were presented. The companies included Shiroshishi Co., Sanyo Kiki Co., Sanyo Shimbun Co., and ITC Co., which shared their successful outcomes resulting from collaborations with Okayama University. Moreover, initiatives like a local craft beer project led by Okayama Prefectural University were introduced, showcasing the diverse array of collaborative efforts.

After the presentations, a networking event took place at the KIBINOVE Innovation Lab, a collaborative hub for academia and industry. Students introduced their projects, including updates from participants in the Okayama Tech Garage Project. There were also proposals for new initiatives aimed at connecting students with businesses, facilitating vibrant and relaxed discussions between students and industry representatives and fostering intergenerational collaboration.
