Huawei and Moroccan Government Join Forces to Transform National Education with DigiSchool Project

Huawei and Moroccan Government Collaborate on DigiSchool Project

Huawei Technologies announced the successful completion of the DigiSchool 2024 project in Morocco, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing equal access to digital education for students across the kingdom. Launched in February 2024, DigiSchool is part of a broader government effort to reform the educational system from 2022 to 2026. This venture exemplifies a successful public-private partnership between the Moroccan Ministry of National Education and Huawei Morocco, aligning with Huawei's global initiative, TECH4ALL, which promotes digital inclusion.

David Li, the CEO of Huawei Morocco, emphasized the importance of strengthening digital skills and the need for robust partnerships between the public and private sectors to build a resilient digital ecosystem. “This strategic partnership signifies our commitment to investing in education and innovation while supporting Morocco's efforts to provide quality and inclusive digital education,” he stated.

The DigiSchool project focused on developing digital skills among students and teachers by offering training in key technological areas, such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, web application development, and coding. Throughout the year, participants gained hands-on experience in robotics and coding, tackling complex technical problems while enhancing their digital literacy through interactive games designed to foster creativity and initiative.

The project unfolded in four phases. The first phase involved training 265 high school teachers in information and communication technology (ICT) across 12 regions of Morocco. The second phase provided ongoing support to these trained teachers, enabling them to apply their newly acquired skills with 2,650 students.

The third phase, conducted between May and November, featured 12 regional hackathons covering all 12 Moroccan regions, involving 714 students tasked with developing ICT solutions to real-world challenges. In December, the final phase included technology boot camps held in Fez, Marrakech, and Agadir, organized in collaboration with regional educational institutions. These camps attracted 180 students and 60 teachers from 12 regions, aiming to refine the ICT skills participants had developed during earlier training sessions and hackathons.

During the boot camps, teams received individualized support to enhance their hackathon projects and present their solutions to a jury. Exceptional contributions were recognized and rewarded.

The DigiSchool 2024 project culminated in an evaluation tour of the boot camp in Agadir from December 17 to 19, 2024. A high-level delegation included Mohamed Saad Berrada, Minister of National Education, Pre-school Education and Sports, Ouafae Chakir, Director of the Regional Institute for Education and Training for the Souss-Massa region, Aida Bougrine, Governor of the Agadir Ida-Outanane region, and Chen Xiaolei, Vice President of Huawei Morocco. During the tour, students showcased their newfound skills by presenting solutions they developed, underscoring the program's success.

The achievement of the DigiSchool program underscores the Moroccan government's ongoing commitment to the digitalization of national education, promoting inclusivity and equality while serving as a regional example of the effective use of technology as a driver for equality and advancement. Huawei is equally dedicated to this mission.

In addition to ongoing educational initiatives worldwide under Huawei's TECH4ALL program, with partners including UNESCO and Close the Gap, Huawei is also implementing DigiSchool projects in countries like Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Chile, and China. These projects aim to connect remote schools to the internet and enhance the digital skills of students and teachers.
