GOJO Industries Honored as a Leader in Chemical Sustainability Practices

GOJO Industries, renowned globally for its hand hygiene products and the maker of PURELL™, received significant recognition at the recent BizNGO Annual Conference. Held on December 8, the event honored GOJO as a Disclosure Leader for its proactive approach within the Chemical Footprint Project. This acknowledgment follows GOJO's ambitious pledge made during the 10th Annual BizNGO Chemical Footprint Conference, wherein the company declared its intent to cut its chemical footprint by an impressive 50% by the year 2020. This marked the first instance where a company publicly set such a comprehensive target to reduce chemical usage.

Dr. Antonio Quiñones-Rivera, Senior Manager of Product Safety and Sustainability at GOJO, accepted the accolade on behalf of the organization. According to Dr. Quiñones-Rivera, GOJO not only met but exceeded its goal, achieving a 64% reduction in its chemical footprint per product use. This remarkable success was attributed to the company’s dedication to developing safer and more sustainable products while ensuring high performance standards for their customers. The initiative reflects a collaborative effort that involved learning from and working closely with suppliers, as well as challenging formulation teams to innovate.

Angela Pinilla, Ph.D., Program Director for the Chemical Footprint Project, praised GOJO for surpassing expectations and being one of only 13 companies recognized this year for its transparency. Sharing detailed survey scores and responses publicly, GOJO set a new industry standard that fosters greater accountability and encourages advancements in chemical management within the sector. Dr. Pinilla emphasized that GOJO's actions promote a model of leadership that other companies might follow to achieve similar transparency and responsible practices.

Established in 1946 by Goldie and Jerry Lippman, the company was founded on the belief that hand hygiene should be safe, effective, and accessible.
