Unifi's Strategic Expansion in the UK Aviation Sector with New Contracts

Unifi's Strategic Expansion in the UK Aviation Sector

Unifi Aviation, a leading name in aviation services, has marked a significant milestone in its European expansion with the acquisition of its first business aviation ground handling contract alongside its third Fixed Base Operation (FBO) security contract in the United Kingdom. Effective from April 15, 2025, Unifi is set to take a lead role in ramp handling operations and fueling services at London Oxford Airport, which stands as the fifth busiest UK airport for business aviation movements.

Stefan Murphy, the Managing Director of Unifi UK and Ireland, emphasizes the strategic importance of this expansion.

“We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with London Oxford Airport through our new ground handling and security operations. This initiative is a vital step for Unifi as we broaden our reach in the UK market.”

In a pioneering move, effective May 1, Unifi will also become the first external entity to oversee ramp operations at the airport, in addition to managing comprehensive airport security. These services will cover 24/7 support, including ID center management, access control, visitor coordination, delivery management, and NASP passenger screening through the airport's FBO.

Owned by the Reuben Brothers, London Oxford Airport is experiencing a surge in demand for on-demand flight operations, fueled by substantial investments aimed at future growth. Notably, a £48 million project has recently been launched to build its AerOx Science and RD Park, along with a new 70,000 sq.ft. hangar, referred to as Hangar No. 16.

Unifi's established local presence and trusted relationship with the airport have been fundamental to securing these contracts. The acquisition of Up Away, a company known for providing aircraft services and executive jet detailing since 2008, has further solidified Unifi’s standing in this sector.

The operational continuity at London Oxford Airport will be supported by onboarding 35 new staff members specifically for ramp handling and security roles. The airport’s services will now carry the branding of 'London Oxford Airport powered by Unifi,' consolidating their service offerings in aviation.

Kris Black, the Airport Operations Director at London Oxford Airport, expresses optimism about the partnership:

“We are delighted to welcome Unifi as the first outsourced ground handling partner in the history of our airport, marking a significant phase in our executive aviation operations. Their expertise and professionalism are well recognized, and we believe this collaboration will elevate the overall customer experience.”

As North America's largest aviation services provider, Unifi operates over two million flights each year across more than 220 airports, offering a comprehensive array of services ranging from ground handling and passenger transport to security and overall ground support. With its headquarters situated in Atlanta, Georgia, Unifi is committed to continuing its strategic growth both in the United Kingdom and globally.

In a time of accelerated growth for both Unifi and London Oxford Airport, this collaboration is set to redefine standards within the aviation sector, enabling enhanced services that promise to meet the evolving needs of business aviation.

The Reuben Brothers, owners of London Oxford Airport and pivotal figures in diverse sectors including private equity, real estate, technology, and media, maintain an ongoing focus on expanding the capabilities and service offerings of the airport. Over the past decade, the airport has firmly established itself as one of the UK's fastest-growing hubs for private business aviation, setting a robust foundation for future development.
