CPSC Issues Urgent Recall Warning for Elitespace Hybrid Mattresses Due to Fire Risk
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a significant warning regarding the Elitespace Hybrid Mattresses, specifically those measuring 12 inches in thickness. Consumers are urged to cease using these mattresses immediately due to serious risks associated with fire hazards that could lead to severe injuries or even fatalities. The root of the problem lies in the mattresses' non-compliance with federal flammability regulations, which are strictly enforced to ensure consumer safety.
The Elitespace Hybrid Mattresses, sold online at Amazon from May 2023 to February 2025, were available in sizes such as full, queen, and king, at a price point of approximately $195. CPSC has identified about 62,640 units sold before the announcement, and its assessment of these mattresses revealed alarming deficiencies in their fire safety measures. Notably, the mattresses also lack the requisite labeling that informs consumers about their safety and usage.
In response to these violations, CPSC has formally issued a Notice of Violation against Foshanshiyiliangjiajukejiyouxiangongsi, the Chinese company operating under the name Elitespace Home. The company has not yet agreed to a recall or provided any solutions for consumers who may be using these dangerous products.
The specific model of concern features a single-sided design with a white knitted top panel and gray side panels. They are supposed to be labeled with the size and instructions stating, "This Mattress is intended to be used without a foundation or with foundation(s) WG/P Foundation." However, CPSC noted that this information does not meet safety standards, further escalating the urgency of the recall notification.
CPSC emphasizes the dangers posed by these mattresses and has urged consumers to stop using them right away. They should dispose of these mattresses in accordance with local disposal requirements and are advised not to sell or donate them to others, as this may inadvertently put more individuals at risk.
In a more proactive response, consumers who may have experienced any injuries or noticed defects in these products are encouraged to report their experiences to the CPSC through its official website, www.SaferProducts.gov. This allows the CPSC to gather data and take necessary actions to protect others from potential hazards.
CPSC serves a critical role in promoting consumer safety by monitoring and regulating thousands of products available in the marketplace. The dangers linked to faulty consumer products not only lead to injuries but also cost the nation substantially in terms of healthcare and other damages related to product incidents.
For consumers’ safety, CPSC advises regular checks of product recalls, urging individuals to stay informed and minimize risks in their homes. For more immediate updates, consumers can visit the CPSC website or check their social media platforms.
This warning serves as a reminder of the importance of product safety regulations and the need for vigilance amongst consumers, especially when purchasing items that directly impact their health and safety. It reflects the ongoing efforts of the CPSC to safeguard the public from unreasonable risks associated with consumer products and enhance the overall safety standards of products in the market.
