A Culinary Celebration at Hotel Metropolitan Edmont
On October 29, 2025, Hotel Metropolitan Edmont will host an extraordinary gastronomic event known as the
Master-Disciple Gourmet Gala Dinner. Head Chef
Katsuhiro Nakamura, the esteemed Honorary Executive Chef, and
Hitoshi Iwasaki, the Executive Chef, are set to illuminate the evening with their culinary brilliance. The event not only showcases their exceptional skills but also honors a unique mentor-disciple relationship that has flourished over the years.
The Chefs Behind the Event
Katsuhiro Nakamura is a distinguished figure in the culinary world. Hailing from Kagoshima Prefecture, he started his journey in the culinary arts by making his way to France in 1970. With over 15 years of experience in renowned restaurants such as
L’Escargot in Paris and
Auberge de l’Ill in Alsace, Nakamura made history in 1979 as the first ever Japanese chef to earn a Michelin star while working as a grand chef at
Le Bourdonnais in Paris. He returned to Japan in 1984 and took the reins as the executive chef of Hotel Metropolitan Edmont when it opened its doors. A recipient of multiple honors, including the
Chevalier and
Commandeur titles of the French Ordre du Mérite Agricole, Nakamura has significantly impacted the Japanese culinary scene through his mentorship and various culinary initiatives.
In contrast,
Hitoshi Iwasaki brings his own impressive background to this event. Born in Tokyo in 1965, Iwasaki began his culinary education at the prestigious
Tsuji Culinary Institute and joined Hotel Edmont in 1987. He trained under Nakamura, mastering classical French cuisine and establishing himself as a renowned chef. Iwasaki has won several accolades, including first place in the
JR Hotel Group Culinary Contest and has participated in various high-profile events, such as the
Toyako Summit in 2008. His tenure as Executive Chef at Hotel Metropolitan Edmont began in 2017, further solidifying his status within the culinary community.
