Novolex Unveils State-of-the-Art Applied Innovation Center in Roanoke, Texas

Novolex Opens Applied Innovation Center in Roanoke, Texas

In a significant move to bolster its innovation capabilities, Novolex®, a prominent player in the food, beverage, and specialty packaging industry, has inaugurated its new Applied Innovation Center (AIC) in Roanoke, Texas. This center is designed to facilitate hands-on training, development, and demonstration of packaging solutions, making it easier for the company and its customers to navigate the complex decisions involved in packaging design and application.

What is the AIC?

The 17,500-square-foot facility is an impressive addition to Novolex's resources, housing five distinct simulated market environments. These include settings tailored for foodservice, grocery, retail, café and bakery, and quick-service restaurants (QSR). Each environment allows both Novolex staff and customers to engage directly with packaging solutions in realistic contexts, ultimately shortening the time it takes to move from concept to actual products available on store shelves.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stan Bikulege emphasized the center's importance, stating, "The Applied Innovation Center is where packaging concepts become customer solutions. Our customers are making bigger packaging decisions faster than ever, balancing cost, performance, and sustainability. With our full portfolio in front of them and our people beside them, the AIC helps them make those decisions with confidence and data to back them up."

A Spectrum of Solutions

One of the standout features of the AIC is its capability to showcase Novolex's diverse substrate offerings. The company's expansive portfolio includes numerous options—fiber, resins, recyclable, compostable, and other specialty solutions—that cater to over 250 brands and around 39,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs). This breadth allows customers to explore, compare, and select packaging options that will best suit their specific products and business needs.

Additionally, the center includes a dedicated prototype room where visitors can engage in onsite forming, sealing, and printing activities. This hands-on approach enhances the collaborative efforts between Novolex teams and clients, allowing for real-time feedback and adjustments based on the performance of various packaging solutions under actual market conditions.

Adrianne Tipton, Chief Innovation and Sustainability Officer at Novolex, noted, "Sustainable packaging only earns its place if it performs. The AIC lets our R&D teams put new materials and designs through the conditions they will face before a customer makes a packaging decision at scale." This statement underscores the center's role in pushing forward the innovation pipeline, ensuring that concepts are tested rigorously before rollout.
