Dr. Jeffrey Miller Appointed as New Dean of Embry-Riddle's College of Engineering

Dr. Jeffrey Miller has been appointed as the new dean of the College of Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott Campus, with his appointment set to take effect in June 2026. Miller, who has an extensive background in engineering and computer science, most recently held the position of dean at the College of Engineering and Computational Sciences at Southern Utah University. During his tenure there, he made significant contributions that included a notable increase in student enrollment and a broadening of the academic offerings from 45 to 76 programs, which speaks volumes about his leadership capabilities.

Under his guidance, the enrollment at Southern Utah University reached approximately 1,700 students, with impressive improvements in both student credit hours and graduation rates. Furthermore, Miller played a pivotal role in ensuring the successful accreditation of the college’s Construction Management and Civil Engineering programs by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). His strategic vision has led the college to secure multiple external funding awards, which have been instrumental in facilitating various educational projects.

Prior to his role at Southern Utah University, Dr. Miller spent nearly a decade at the University of Southern California (USC), where he distinguished himself as a professor in Computer Science and Information Technology Practice, and took on the role of department chair for the Information Technology program. His efforts in founding the CS@SC Camps demonstrated his commitment to promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education, successfully introducing more than 7,500 students to fields like computer science and robotics since its inception in 2015.

Dr. Miller’s career trajectory began at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where he taught various engineering and computing disciplines and was instrumental in achieving ABET accreditation for the Computer Systems Engineering program. His career is marked by leadership in major federally funded projects, including a notable $5.8 million initiative from the U.S. Department of Labor focused on cybersecurity apprenticeships.

In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Miller also brings valuable industry experience, having served as an expert witness in over 50 cases involving software, cybersecurity, intellectual property, and data systems. This blend of academic and practical experience positions him uniquely to take the College of Engineering at Embry-Riddle to new heights.

Dr. Ken Witcher, Chancellor of Embry-Riddle’s Prescott Campus, expressed enthusiasm over Miller’s appointment, stating, "Dr. Miller brings the leadership, forward-thinking vision, and academic depth essential to advancing our engineering programs. His extensive background positions him well to elevate the College of Engineering and support the success of our students and faculty."

Miller himself expressed his enthusiasm about joining Embry-Riddle, noting that the university's engineering programs have gained a national reputation for excellence. He is committed to building on this strong foundation and aims to collaborate with faculty to expand opportunities for students, forge stronger industry partnerships, and enhance innovative teaching and research. __His determination to prepare graduates to lead in a rapidly evolving society underscores his vision for the future of the College of Engineering.__

Dr. Miller holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science, along with both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in the same field from the University of Southern California, bringing a profound level of expertise to his role at Embry-Riddle.
